Role Description This is a full-time remote role for a Vice President of Risk and Operations at Kraken. The role involves managing market risk, utilizing analytical skills, overseeing financial services, and implementing risk management strategies on a daily basis. Key Responsibilities Risk Management Risk Strategy and Framework: Develop, implement, and maintain an enterprise-wide risk management framework, ensuring the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks across all operational areas. Risk Assessment and Analysis: Oversee the assessment of both operational and strategic risks (e.g., market, credit, operational, and reputational risks), providing actionable insights and recommendations to senior management. Risk Reporting: Provide detailed reports and presentations to the board of directors and senior leadership, highlighting key risk factors and suggesting mitigation strategies. Compliance and Regulatory Oversight: Ensure the company’s operations comply with industry regulations, laws, and best practices. Stay updated on evolving regulatory requirements, such as Basel III, Dodd-Frank, or MiFID II. Risk Mitigation: Implement strategies and systems to mitigate potential risks, including operational, financial, technological, and regulatory risks. Lead efforts in crisis management and business continuity planning. Operational Management Operational Efficiency: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the business, ensuring that processes, systems, and resources are effectively utilized to meet company goals and objectives. Process Optimization: Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and streamline processes. Lead initiatives to optimize business operations through process redesign, automation, and technology implementation. Operational Risk: Manage and mitigate operational risks related to processes, systems, human resources, and external vendors, ensuring business continuity and minimizing disruptions. Technology Integration: Work closely with the IT department to ensure that technology supports operational processes and risk management initiatives effectively. Leadership and Team Management Team Leadership: Lead a team of risk management professionals, operational managers, and cross-functional teams, setting clear goals, ensuring collaboration, and driving high performance. Talent Development: Foster a culture of continuous learning and development within the risk and operations teams. Provide mentorship, training, and career growth opportunities for team members. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with senior leaders across departments such as finance, legal, compliance, IT, and business development to ensure alignment between risk management, operational strategies, and business objectives. Strategic Planning Strategic Risk Oversight: Align risk management strategies with business objectives, supporting the company’s growth while maintaining an acceptable level of risk exposure. Business Continuity Planning: Develop and maintain comprehensive business continuity and disaster recovery plans to safeguard the organization’s operations in the event of a crisis or unforeseen circumstances. Mergers and Acquisitions: Provide strategic guidance and risk assessment during mergers, acquisitions, or other corporate restructuring events, ensuring the integration of risk management practices into these processes. Performance Monitoring and Reporting KPI Development: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for both risk management and operations, ensuring that these metrics are tracked, analyzed, and reported to senior leadership. Operational and Risk Audits: Regularly perform internal audits and operational reviews to identify inefficiencies, non-compliance, or areas of improvement. Implement corrective actions based on findings. Metrics and Dashboards: Oversee the creation of risk and operations dashboards to provide real-time insights into business performance, risk exposure, and operational health. Budget and Resource Management Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes for both risk management and operations, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to meet departmental and organizational goals. Resource Allocation: Ensure that adequate resources (financial, human, and technological) are available to meet risk and operational objectives, optimizing the use of company assets.
