General Position Description This position plays a critical role in managing and implementing mill capital and major repair projects, providing day-to-day technical support, and offering power systems expertise within the Utilities Department. Key Responsibilities Promote and support all facility-level safety and environmental initiatives. Conduct front-end studies on potential capital projects with high business impacts. Develop and maintain dynamic capital and major repair plans, adjusting to the facility's evolving needs. Support engineering and maintenance teams in implementing projects with a focus on safety, quality, cost, environmental impact, and schedule. Manage multiple projects concurrently, covering all aspects from initial concept to commissioning and documentation. Provide power systems expertise and engineering support, including: Design and troubleshooting of turbine generators and auxiliary systems. High-voltage (13.8 kV) power distribution systems. Relay protection systems (digital and electro-mechanical). Maintenance of transmission lines, busses, breakers, and arc flash analysis. Process control systems, PLCs, DCS, and AC/DC drives. Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical problems within the facility. Oversee and manage contractor compliance with safety, technical, and commercial standards. Collaborate with Legal and Purchasing departments to develop vendor agreements. Provide financial input on tax, capital vs. expense, and IRR justifications. Maintain capital asset and engineering documentation. Mentor junior engineers, interns, and co-ops. Ensure compliance with codes and standards in all maintenance and engineering activities. Participate in and lead cross-functional teams. Qualifications and Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution. 10+ years of related experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in pulp and paper, power generation, or other heavy industries. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license and/or PMP certification is a plus. Key Competency Areas Proficiency in applying engineering concepts and computational analysis. Expertise in power generation equipment, distribution systems up to 13.8 kV, relay protection, arc flash compliance, AC/DC drives, and process control systems. Experience with engineering documentation such as P&IDs, loop diagrams, and single-line diagrams. Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to guide teams and present technical information effectively. Familiarity with NFPA 70E compliance and process control instrumentation. Technical Skills Proficiency in MS Office Suite and MS Project. Familiarity with SAP and SAP Project Systems. Medium-level proficiency in AutoCAD.
