Job Summary

The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the College of Nursing and Health Professions, School of Leadership and Advanced Nursing Practice. This 9-month, tenure-track faculty position requires teaching graduate and/or undergraduate-level courses in the College, developing a programmatic line of research, mentoring students, and providing service to the school, college, university, and professional organizations. Qualified applicants with teaching/practice experience as a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and/or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) are welcome to apply.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

* Develop and teach graduate courses and potentially upper-level undergraduate courses. * Contribute broadly to our thriving graduate and undergraduate nursing programs. * Mentor/advise nurse practitioners students. Possess a passion to educate nurse practitioners. * Supervise nurse practitioner students and clinical faculty in the clinical setting (e.g., monitor clinical hours, approve preceptors, maintain clinical contracts) as needed. * Develop and maintain syllabi, lesson plans, and more for each course taught. * Adhere to the clinical and class schedules as posted. * Follow the policies of the College of Nursing and Health Professions, the School of Leadership and Advanced Nursing Practice and/or the School of Professional Nursing Practice and affiliate clinical sites. * Turn in course specific documentation as scheduled. * Communicate course requirements to students in a timely manner. * Available to assigned students for support and course advising including exams, required remediation, and summative evaluations. * Collaborate with the Course Clinical Coordinator to plan, implement, and evaluate each course offering to maintain quality and effectiveness. * Attend scheduled program, school, college, and university meetings. * Provide service to the school, college, university, and professional organizations. * Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

* The successful candidate(s) will possess an earned doctorate in nursing or related discipline. * Applicants must have 3 years' clinical experience. * Candidates must hold an unencumbered license to practice nursing in the State of Mississippi, meet all requirements of the affiliated clinical agencies, and satisfy a criminal background check. * Successful candidates must have, or have the potential for, a strong program of scholarship appropriate to their experience and rank. * Salary and appointment to Assistant Professor will be commensurate with qualifications and experience appropriate for that rank.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* Evidence of current American Heart Association CPR training * Evidence of yearly tuberculin skin tests and other required immunizations as per nursing program policy and/or agency requirements. * Evidence of ten continuing education units annually * Knowledge of or willingness to learn Canvas, Medatrax, and other related educational platforms. * Strong written and oral communication skills. * Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds, programs, and colleges. * Uphold the mission and values of the USM College of Nursing and Health Professions.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference for applicants with certification as a Family or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
