Job Summary

The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track faculty position as an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing and Health Professions, School of Leadership and Advanced Nursing Practice. Qualified applicants with teaching/practice experience as a board-certified Nurse Anesthetist are welcome to apply.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

* Develop and teach graduate courses. * Contribute broadly to our thriving graduate and undergraduate nursing programs. * Mentor/advise nurse anesthesia students. * Supervise nurse anesthesia students in the simulation setting. * Develop and maintain syllabi, lesson plans, and more for each course taught. * Maintain the standards of The University of Southern Mississippi. * Possess a passion to educate anesthesia students * Assist the program clinical coordinator with student scheduling, onboarding, tracking, paperwork, application, and communications. * Inventory simulation supply ordering, stocking, and inventory. * Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a doctoral degree in nursing or a doctoral degree in a related field along with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in nursing.

Applicants must have 4+ years' clinical experience as a certified registered nurse anesthetist and 1-2 years of didactic experience teaching in a nurse anesthesia program.

Candidates must hold or be eligible for an unencumbered license to practice nursing and advanced practice standing in the State of Mississippi, meet all requirements of the affiliated clinical agencies, and satisfy a criminal background check.

Current ACLS, PALS, and BLS certification.

Salary and appointment to Assistant Professor will be commensurate with qualifications and experience appropriate for that rank.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* Utilizes personal computer, computer software (PeopleSoft, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point), photocopy machine, fax machine, and telephone. Also uses standard office equipment such as stapler, staple remover, and scissors. * Ability to mentored in curriculum, teaching, and content delivery, accepting constructive criticism and have a willingness to learn. * Skill in computer keyboard use. Knowledge of or willingness to learn Canvas, Medatrax, and other related educational platforms. Basic knowledge and skill of maneuvering within Windows-based software applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Basic knowledge and skill on Internet browsers to access web sites. Basic knowledge and skill of using email to send and receive correspondence. Proficiency in using search engines and web-based applications for research. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Access for reports and documents. Knowledge and skill in incorporating software tools and equipment into office procedures. * Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations. * Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs. * Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference for applicants with a minimum of 3 or more years of experience in didactic nurse anesthesia education.
