Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit Gillings Advancement offers a variety of services to facilitate the School's research, teaching and service mission, promoting the development of public health policy, publicizing School activites and public health issues, and generating financial support from alumni, foundations, corporations and the NC Legislature. The office also coordinates special events.
Position Summary The Director of Development will serve in a leadership role in the UNC Gillings School Advancement Office by cultivating and soliciting gifts in the $100,000 - $5,000,000 range from alumni, friends, faculty, staff and other sources for the School's top priorities and will support the day-to-day operations of the major gift activity team. S/he will be an active leader of the Office of Advancement within the School of Public Health and report directly to the Associate Dean for Advancement.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with three years or greater of related professional experience; for candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and five years or greater of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience The successful candidate will have experience in cultivating donors and soliciting and closing gifts of $100,000 or more. Candidates should have experience that evidences a mastery of the principles and techniques of successful fundraising as they pertain to the identification, cultivation, closure and stewardship of individual prospects; and superb written and oral communication skills with proven ability to persuade. S/he will also have the ability to interact effectively in a comprehensive, Research University setting; the ability to motivate and engender the confidence of volunteers, faculty members, potential donors, foundation and corporate partners and the ability to work as part of a dynamic, energetic team in a fast-paced, results-oriented organization with high standards.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Preference given to candidates with backgrounds in higher education or health related fields.
