invites applicants for the position of Associate Director for Educational Development, who will develop and deliver educational development programming and support instructors in our health science colleges. Position Summary The Associate Director for Educational Development is responsible for engaging UIC instructors on our health science colleges in professional learning opportunities that advance student-centered, inclusive, and innovative teaching strategies. Responsibilities include developing and deploying online resources, consultation services, and programs such as workshops and webinars that are grounded in learning theory and empirical research and advocate for adoption of teaching methods effective in supporting diverse learners. The Associate Director will collaborate with college and unit leadership, instructors, and staff within the colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Applied Health Sciences, Social Work, and Public Health to design new opportunities in support of a wide range of instructors, including clinical-, laboratory-, and classroom-educators, and those with full-time, part-time, volunteer, and adjunct positions. The Associate Director also will facilitate instructor participation in communities of practice as a means to sustain engagement and deepen pedagogical knowledge and skills. In addition, responsibilities entail collaborating with campus partners to launch new initiatives that promote and celebrate teaching. Duties & Responsibilities Designs and leads direction of programs, services, and strategic initiatives, with a focus on the goals of the health sciences colleges. Coordinates these efforts with health professions education partners in each of the colleges. Partners with the CATE Executive Director and other CATE staff to create opportunities for expanding center programming to better address the needs of the health sciences colleges faculty. Develops long-term relationships with key stakeholders. Collaborates with other CATE team members on capturing appropriate data for measuring program impact. Engages with various forms of teaching and learning scholarship; considers trends, and experiments with innovations in instructional and educational development, particularly in health professions education and clinical settings. Develops resources (e.g., online teaching guides, modules, and the like) and facilitates CATE’s programming (e.g., workshops) to support instructors across UIC’s Rockford and Peoria campuses. Engages with instructors and departments on the design and analysis of education research-related grants and quality improvement projects related to instruction. Maintains up-to-date participation records and databases to enable the CATE team to make data-informed decisions on CATE’s priorities, programming, and resources. Attend and present at relevant regional, national, and international conferences, and disseminate and publish work in collaboration with instructors and campus partners. Represent UIC and CATE by attending and presenting at regional, national, and international conferences, participating in on-campus events, and organizing CATE events that bring together colleagues affiliated with our regional teaching and learning centers. Proactively engage in professional development to stay up-to-date on teaching and learning scholarship, particularly in health sciences fields. As opportunities present themselves, engage in scholarly work in collaboration with CATE staff, instructors, and other campus and community partners. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications Terminal degree in Education, Learning Sciences, Psychology, or the combination of a Terminal degree in a health professions field combined with relevant experience in educational development. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity in higher education. Experience in designing, facilitating, and evaluating programming for instructors. Experience collaborating effectively with administrators, academic units, instructors, staff, and other partners. Knowledge of evidence-based, student-centered teaching practices for adult learners in higher education. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal/written communication skills. Ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines, and pay attention to details. Ability to work independently and as a productive, constructive team member. Preferred Qualifications Experience in designing, facilitating, and evaluating faculty development programs, and collaborating effectively with administrators, academic units, faculty, staff, and other partners in the health sciences, specifically. Experience in designing, facilitating, and evaluating faculty development programs specific to clinical teaching. Experience with simulations as a teaching method. Ability to work a hybrid schedule. Must be available to work a hybrid schedule and be on campus at least 3 days per week. Occasional travel for work-related conferences and events, including professional development opportunities at least once per year. Requires sitting for extended periods of time, standing, visual acumen, manual dexterity and fingering for working with computer keyboards. The position is a full-time, 12-month appointment, with an anticipated start date of March 16, 2025. The budgeted salary range for the position is $85,000 to $91,500.
