is seeking a self-directed, strategic, creative, and innovative

Director of Communications

with demonstrated experience developing and executing communications strategies for post-baccalaureate education and research over a wide range of disciplines. Reporting to the Dean and working closely with the Director of Admissions, the Director will oversee multiple communications platforms, including print, web, email, and social media. The Director provides strategic leadership and coordination of communications efforts across the SGS, ensuring a consistent brand and graphic identity that unites the SGS while simultaneously celebrating its diverse range of programs. The ideal candidate will use their communications knowledge and skills to advance the strategic goals of the SGS, and be known as a strategic thinker, collaborative leader, and expert resource. This position is eligible for hybrid work (up to 2 days telework per week), however in-person work will be required during major events such as Commencement and the State of the School address. Primary Duties

Define, implement, and sustain a comprehensive communications strategy and operation for the School of Graduate Studies. As part of the School of Graduate Studies leadership team, ensure that all communications are aligned with the School of Graduate Studies’ mission, ethics, values, and brand pillars. Advance the strategic goals and objectives of the School of Graduate Studies: amplify its voice, broaden its impact, and enhance its reputation. Collaborate effectively with university-level Communications and Public Affairs and communications teams in other UMB Schools, especially in the development of crisis communications and reputational risk management. Build effective and inclusive relationships across the School of Graduate Studies and provide guidance to faculty and staff. Manage all internal and external communication channels, including media relations, press releases, social media, print media such as newsletters and magazines, email newsletters, and website content. Develop and maintain effective relationships with UMB Philanthropy to achieve alumni and donor communication goals. Work closely with the Director of Admissions on marketing and student recruitment, providing advice and content for the CRM and marketing/recruitment strategies. Collaborate with the leadership team in the planning and execution of major events such as the annual State of the School address and investiture of named professorships. Oversee the recruitment, performance, and training of team members; leverage university professional development resources to maintain a well-trained, responsive, highly involved, and motivated staff. Perform other duties as assigned. Education

Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing or related field is preferred. Experience

Six (6) years of experience in marketing, public relations, communications, or media, public or client relations. Experience working in public higher education and promoting graduate education, including establishment of performance metrics and allocation of resources is preferred. Experience in graphic design, photography, and/or videography preferred. Supervisory Experience

Two (2) years of experience at a management or leadership level. Certification/Licensure

Additional preference in demonstrated technical understanding of website development and maintenance (Terminal 4), email systems (Constant Contact), and CRM systems (Ellucian Recruit, Salesforce Marketing Cloud). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
