About the role:
At Takeda, we are a forward-looking, world-class R&D organization that unlocks innovation and delivers transformative therapies to patients. By focusing R&D efforts on four therapeutic areas and other targeted investments, we push the boundaries of what is possible in order to bring life-changing therapies to patients worldwide. Join Takeda as a Scientist where you will lead the design, development and optimization of bioinformatics systems to support the discovery and design of biologics therapeutics. You will establish novel bioinformatics and machine learning workflows to analyze next-generation sequencing data to advance antibody sequences from in vitro (yeast and phage), in vivo (single/bulk B cells) or de novo (AI based) platforms with the goal to deeply interrogate repertoires, expand functional and sequence diversity and accelerate lead discovery using in silico tools. As part of the Next Generation Sequencing team, you will report to the Associate Director and investigate use of computational tools in other areas in Global Biologics to accelerate workflows and to enhance pipeline support and accelerate programs to IND. How you will contribute:
Develop pipelines to utilize large-scale bulk or single B cell sequencing data, generate library QC, annotate the reads and reports prioritize antibody sequences. Improve antibody screening and in silico analysis workflows by implementing standard automated protocols for the curation, annotation and interpretation of large datasets. Work independently to establish NGS data analysis and library QC workflows. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sequencing data with other data generated from antibody discovery engine. Establish workflows to analyze NGS datasets in other areas in Global Biologics including cell line generation, plasmid preparation and CAR-T design characterization. Continuously learn to develop better and novel methods for in-silico affinity maturation and antibody discovery based on the NGS datasets. Use AWS and HCP infrastructure for additional compute needs. Use Docker and Github for reproducibility of workflow and version control, respectively. Develop UI to seamlessly integrate flow of sequencing data from various discovery platform and relevant information Based on the data, recommend changes in the library generation processes. Meet established timelines, maintain accurate records of work, and present data at team, departmental and company-wide meeting. Develop and test theories on the physical, chemical, and/or biological properties of materials and ingredients under various conditions. Devise research methods, prepare technical specifications, and specify laboratory test equipment and processes. Make recommendations concerning acquisition and use of new technological equipment and materials. Manage large projects or processes with limited oversight from the manager. Analyze diverse data and select appropriate methods for solutions. Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
PhD degree in a scientific discipline (or equivalent), or MS with 6+ years relevant experience, or BS with 8+ years relevant experience. A strong background in computational biology and scientific programing languages (R/Python). In-depth experience analyzing NGS data including B-cell receptor and antibody repertoire sequencing data. Minimum 3 years of industry experience of hands-on NGS data analysis (RNAseq /scRNAseq) utilizing custom workflows and pipelines. Demonstrated ability to write, test and automate and benchmark computational pipeline tools. Experience with AI/ML and deep learning-based methodology is a plus. Advanced proficiency in molecular biology, capable of executing and optimizing complex techniques like gene cloning and advising on research and diagnostic methods. Perform advanced analysis and experiments in cell biology, capable of advising others, and handles highly complex situations independently. Advanced proficiency in immunology, capable of handling highly complex situations, making recommendations for improvements, and guiding others in this field. Advanced proficiency in biotechnology, capable of applying knowledge in highly complex situations and advising others on biological processes for commercial goods production. Advanced proficiency in Ribonucleic Acid Sequencing, capable of tackling highly complex projects and advising others based on a deep understanding of molecular and computational biology techniques involved. Recognized for leadership skills, capable of managing small project teams and mentoring junior staff. Excellent communication skills, able to articulate complex concepts clearly and adapt messaging for various audiences. Demonstrates innovation in research, capable of leading creative ideation processes and making improvement recommendations. Skilled in project management, able to oversee research projects and ensure alignment with organizational goals. Capable of mentoring others in scientific research and project management, fostering skill development among team members. Excels in building and maintaining professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring collaborative project success. More about us:
