The Senior Director, Intellectual Property Counsel will be an experienced biopharmaceutical IP attorney who will join our legal team to establish its internal IP function. ITCI is a growing, commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, clinical development, and commercialization of innovative drugs that address underserved medical needs, primarily in psychiatric and neurological disorders. This position will play a key role in managing and protecting the company’s IP portfolio and serving as a key adviser on IP-related matters. Job Responsibilities:
Manages all aspects of global IP development, prosecution, maintenance, and defense. Develops a strong understanding of ITCI’s business, development programs, competitors, markets, strategies, and risks, and keeps current with emerging legal trends, laws, and regulations. Advises on IP-related strategies and risks across the organization and identifies opportunities to expand ITCI’s IP position. Collaborates closely with the research, clinical development, commercial, regulatory, and business development teams on IP-related matters. Reviews and negotiates potential license and collaboration agreements and IP provisions in commercial and other agreements. Supports business development activities, including by providing strategic advice and conducting IP due diligence. Provides IP and technical advice and manages the use of outside counsel in IP-related litigation. Understands and contributes toward a positive team culture and promotes a cohesive, mission-driven work environment. Job Requirements:
U.S. law degree (Juris Doctor) from an accredited law school and admission to practice in at least one U.S. State (New Jersey or New York preferred). Advanced degree (Ph.D. or M.S.) in a life science (biology, chemistry, or related discipline) strongly preferred. 10+ years of combined substantial legal experience at a biopharmaceutical company and/or law firm focusing on patent prosecution and IP transactional matters. Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office required. Experience and expertise in IP prosecution of therapeutic products and related technologies as well as complex licensing and/or other transactional matters preferred. Experience with Hatch-Waxman and other IP-related litigation preferred. High level of professionalism, integrity, and judgment. Ability to work independently and proactively with minimal direction. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and balance multiple projects, responsibilities, and timelines. Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong negotiation skills. Complete all company and job-related training as assigned within the required timelines.
