The Executive Office of Technology Services and Security (EOTSS) is the state's lead office for information technology. We provide enterprise level information technology services including network management and security; computer operations; application hosting; desktop provisioning and management; and modern and responsive digital services to 40,000 internal stakeholders plus the residents, business owners and visitors to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. EOTSS is seeking to hire a Senior Network Engineer to join the Network Engineering Team . The Networking Engineering Team provides reliable Network Services and support to all Commonwealth of Massachusetts customers. The networking services provided by the team include network design, implementation, installation, and management. The team is especially skilled in and specializes in complex routing configurations, wireless networking, and the use of Visio for creating diagrams in support of the infrastructure. The team provides 3rd Tier support to the Network Operations Team and routinely joins Major Incident conference bridges to help with troubleshooting incidents to their resolution. The Senior Network Engineer will be mainly responsible for the configuration and implementation for a multi-vendor hardware network within a cloud-based environment. Additional responsibilities will be installing cabling and fiber infrastructure to support router and switch connectivity. The incumbent of this role will also be responsible for upgrading Juniper & Cisco networking equipment and software including switches, routers, wireless hardware, and load balancers. This individual will design and layout site-to-site VPN tunnels on Juniper and Cisco routers to provide secure connectivity and access to the Commonwealth data centers. The incumbent of this role will provide 3rd Tier support to 2nd Tier Network Operations staff to resolve customer issues with critical response time requirements. The primary work location for this role will be at 200 Arlington Street Chelsea, Massachusetts 02150 . The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 9:00AM to 5:00PM EST. This position would be expected to follow a hybrid model of reporting to work that combines in-office workdays and work from home days as needed. Occasional travel to local offices may be required. Off-hours/On-call support may be required as determined by the Manager of Network Engineering . On-Call is defined as non-work time, during which members of staff are required to be available to handle job-related activities and emergencies off hours. Staff are compensated per the Collective Bargaining agreement for stand-by pay and callback. Duties and Responsibilities: Participate on Major Incident conference bridges to help with troubleshooting to resolution. Perform a written transition documents and procedures for the Network Operations Team when new systems and hardware are being deployed - this could include a transition meeting or training session with the Network Operations staff to ensure seamless transition into production. Attend bi-weekly status meetings and provide status updates to Manager. Stay current with network and infrastructure technologies through various methods including online research, vendor hosted seminars and conferences, free online courses as well as potential employer paid courses. Design and layout of site-to-site VPN tunnels to provide secure connectivity and access to the Commonwealth data centers. Collaborate with users, vendors, and other technical teams on the identification, isolation, and correction of problems as well as enhancements in the WAN/Core network. Consistently follow standard change management processes as well as planning, scheduling, and communicating changes. Document and evaluate impact of required changes to the various networked systems. Design of complex Core and WAN networks, IP and routing summarization; includes configuring routers and switches. Design of complex wireless networks includes configuring the Wi-Fi switches, controllers, and Access Points. Design of server load balancing solutions, which includes configuring the SLB Farms and SSL Offload on the appliances. Design proposals for connectivity solutions for internal and external Commonwealth of Massachusetts customers and arrange meetings to discuss. Design of router and switch QoS, ACL and traffic shaping configurations and implement them as needed. Create detailed Visio diagrams in support of network hardware deployments. Participate in design meetings with our vendor partners to discuss technology updates. Retrieve hardware quotes from resellers in support of procurement. P r e f e r re d Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Five (5) years of extensive hands-on experience with configuring and implementing a multi-vendor hardware network (Juniper or Cisco) within a cloud-based environment. Five (5) years of strong hands-on experience and knowledge with configuring VPN tunnels on Juniper or Cisco Routers. Five (5) years of experience with network concepts including STP, VPC, MPLS, QoS, and VLAN design. Two (2) to three (3) years of hands-on experience and knowledge with the following cloud computing platforms: Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS. Extensive hands-on experience and knowledge with a variety of routing protocols including OSPF, BGP, IGRP, EIGRP, and RIP. Strong knowledge and configuration experience with multi-vendor routers and switches. Ability to create detailed Visio diagrams in support of network hardware deployments. Ability to perform IP and routing summarization, includes configuring routers and switches. Knowledge with firewalls: Cisco ASA, Juniper SRX, Palo Alto and Checkpoint. Knowledge and hands-on experience with multiple networking vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, and F5. Knowledge of desktop operating systems and their networking functions. Knowledge of wireless networks and basic configuration. Strong knowledge and experience with configuring QoS, ACL and traffic shaping. Knowledge of server load balancing solutions, which includes configuring the SLB Farms and SSL Offload on the appliances. Ability to follow standard change management processes. Ability to understand and follow sometimes-complex oral and written instructions. Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills with a high degree of attention to detail. Ability to work independently for specific assigned tasks but also in a team environment. Knowledge and experience with Variable Length Subnet Masking (VLSM) and static routing. Cisco Certifications: CCNA and CCNP or CCIE are a plus, but not required. Juniper Network Certifications: JNCIA or JNCIE are a plus, but not required. Qualifications: First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have (A) at least three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time professional or practical experience in the field of information technology network services, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. An Associate's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience. II. A Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field may substitute for two (2) years of the required experience. III. A Master's degree or higher in a related field may substitute for the required experience .
