Job Summary
The Executive Director of Development reports to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement. The Executive Director of Development will lead, manage, develop, and implement fundraising activities to support the mission of the Institutional Advancement Office and the Midland College Foundation. The primary focus of this position is to cultivate donors and prospects (individuals, corporations, foundations, alumni, etc.) with the significant giving capacity to accomplish their philanthropic goals through the form of annual, major, and planned gifts. This strategic work involves extensive collaboration and active partnerships with Midland College leadership, volunteers, and senior administrators to ensure existing and emerging constituents are best positioned to provide maximum levels of philanthropic support for Midland College priorities.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience in a foundation or non-profit fundraising office Knowledge and understanding of the function and role of the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors in the community Ability to manage a diverse portfolio of relationships and partnerships Excellent knowledge of Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills Develop effective and efficient processes, interacting with donors and funders while coordinating between appropriate departments requiring advanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills Effectively manage time and priorities to meet established deadlines Work in a team environment with multiple, sometimes changing priorities Promote a culture of high performance, integrity, and continuous improvement that values learning, collaboration, and a commitment to quality work among the development team Interact with donors, funders, students, and colleagues in a professional manner Participate on behalf of the Institutional Advancement Office and Midland College in community organizations and associations as assigned Must possess a valid Texas Driver License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College's insurance policy Preferred Qualifications
Eight or more years of fundraising experience Academic and administration experience Experience working with donor software; Raiser's Edge Essential Functions
Cultivate major gift prospects, investing the necessary time and energy to build relationships designed to understand the donor/prospect goals with the expressed purpose of alignment with scholarship matches, as well as the Institutional Advancement Office and Midland College Foundation's mission and objectives Track prospects and donor contacts in portfolio using organizational tools and tracking methods via Raiser's Edge, ensuring that all donor information entry, storage, and special requests are recorded and accomplished Accurately record all donations - including cash, checks, stock transfers, and non-cash gifts - into Raiser's Edge, manage batching procedures, and prepare donations for the Midland College Business Office, ensuring data consistency through collaboration with Business Office staff Work closely with Midland College's accounting department on donation reconciliation and support the Foundation's annual audit Provide oversight and management of all Midland College Foundation constituent records, applying fundraising and foundation best practices and performing routine audits and global updates to ensure data accuracy Prepare donor gift acknowledgments, manage pledge tracking, reminders, and follow-ups, and assist with weekly deposits, check requests, and monthly reconciliation, supporting both the Institutional Advancement Office and the Midland College Foundation Prepare complex queries, exports, and reports from Raiser's Edge to support fundraising activities, including donor retention, solicitation initiatives, and specific reporting requests from the MC President, Foundation staff, and the MC Foundation Board of Directors Establish and oversee process for communicating with donors and scholarship recipients (correspondences, impact reports, profiles, donor meetings, etc.) Collaborate with campus leadership and select faculty/staff to develop and fundraise in support of priority initiatives Work with Institutional Advancement Office staff, as well as internal and external volunteers, to coordinate activities and communications Lead the development of written proposals, grant writing, and other materials to deepen prospect engagement Prepare and oversee all reporting for grants received Develop and maintain positive working relationships with nonprofit organizations in the Midland community and surrounding areas Must be available for evenings and weekends for special events, meetings, training, and conferences Other duties as assigned Physical Demands
Must be able to lift or move up to 25 pounds Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time Use of manual dexterity The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Duties performed both indoors and outdoors Work both on-campus and off-campus This position may require occasional travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town
