What you will be doing: In this role, you will be part of the Division of Public Health's Data Modernization Initiatives team. The team is responsible for modernizing the Department of Health, Division of Public Health databases. Key responsibilities include:
Microsoft SQL Server administration Database design and optimization Database service continuity, reliability, and availability design You will work with the department's enterprise database administrator to ensure compatibility between legacy and modernized systems.

This position has been identified as appropriate for hybrid telework. The selected individual must maintain residency in Anchorage, Alaska, and be prepared to report to the office one day per week. Our offices are located at 3601 C St.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following:

Minimum Qualifications
Database Specialist 1: Four years of computer programming experience in a recognized computer language. At least one year of the four must have involved programming database applications at the full proficiency programmer level in a wide area networked DBMS environment. This required experience includes, but is not limited to, work such as an Analyst/Programmer 3 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere. OR Four years of work experience supporting and maintaining a wide area networked DBMS in a database administration environment that included: 1) leading or serving as shift supervisor for computer operations in a mainframe or database server computer environment or assisting and training on designing and implementing basic computer software; and 2) at least six months actual programming experience in an internal database language. The lead/shift supervisor and design and implementation experience includes, but is not limited to, work such as a Data Processing Technician 3 with the State of Alaska, or equivalent experience elsewhere.
Database Specialist 2: One year of database management systems experience at a level equivalent to a Database Specialist 1 for the State of Alaska.
Database Specialist 3: Two years database management systems experience at a level equivalent to a Database Specialist 2 with the State of Alaska.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the 1, 2, or 3 levels, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level of the position. If filled at a lower level, promotion to the higher level will only occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, and the applicant meets the minimum qualifications of the higher job class and final approval by the supervisor.
EDUCATION To verify education is being used to meet and/or support the required minimum qualifications/competencies, you must fill in the Education section of the application.
