Purchasing Manager Job Purpose: The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the plant's Purchasing department. This role requires the ability to supervise others and be a hands-on contributor tackling tactical and more complex issues where analysis of situations and data are required. The individual will participate in development of processes, procedures, evaluation of projects, cost savings initiatives and supplier management with a keen focus on developing service models that are highly effective in supporting the factory.
Nature of Job Duties:
Responsible for all Purchasing functions for raw materials, production supplies and services. Coordinates with Sanmina's corporate procurement team to ensure alignment of strategy. Plans and implements activities related to the procurement of materials, parts, components, and equipment. Works with employees to plan, assign, and monitor individual objectives and activities based on group priorities and company strategy. Provides useful and timely feedback to staff members on their performance and development plan. Responsible for defining and establishing supplier service models that support factory performance, including reducing supplier lead times, maintaining stocking levels, defining on-site support requirements, and serving as primary liaison. Oversees management of supply chain costs, drives cost savings initiatives, supports and may lead requests for proposals and negotiations. Ensures supplier corrective action plans are documented and timely for all performance levels under standard. Provides various supplier and cost reports, analyses, and recommendations to assist in making decisions both within the Purchasing group and with the factory management team. Has knowledge of programs such as VMI, VCI and EDI. Works with supplier teams and internal stakeholders to ensure that manufacturing plans and supply are synchronized. The role is interdisciplinary (purchasing, inventory management, logistics) with a focus on supporting factory operations and driving costs out of the business. Works closely with production control and customer-focused teams to fully understand planned manufacturing volumes and prepare supply models to support. Directs the activities of buyers and expeditors to accomplish company objectives. Education and Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of progressive and diversified Procurement and Supply Chain experience in manufacturing environments, including 2 years in a lead, supervisor or management position. Strong knowledge of procurement fundamentals, supplier management, negotiations, MRP, inventory management and logistics. Excellent written communications skills and sound Microsoft Excel skills. Strong tactical decision-maker and handles unforeseen issues. Ability to perform at a high level in a dynamic fast-paced environment. Bachelors Degree preferred. APICS or ISM certification preferred. Salary range: $95,000 - $110,000 In addition, Sanmina provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
