The Director of Purchasing is responsible for managing the planning process and developing optimization strategies within the supply chain function leading to optimal customer service, product supply, inventory liability/turns and cost. Lead the Supply Chain Operations process internally and externally with customers. Collaborate with the Managers of Manufacturing & Distribution, Purchasing, Business development, Engineering and the Cost Accounting Group to develop annual, quarterly and monthly supply chain plans. Work with the production planning/Supply chain group to develop, implement and influence best practices in the disciplines of forecasting, supply chain management, inventory management and master scheduling. Analyze trade-offs and issues impacting production, materials planning, scheduling and customer service. Develop and implement production and inventory optimization strategies for current and future accounts, new product introductions and discontinued/obsolete products. Work closely with the Sanmina WW Sourcing Group to develop partnerships with key suppliers to reduce raw material inventory, implement VMI/Consignment programs, improve delivery lead time and inbound logistics costs. Work closely with senior managers within the organization to assist in developing short and long-term inventory and capacity plans. Drive Supply Chain automation via IT/ERP and planning systems. Evaluate enhancements to IT systems, material visibility and make recommendations for upgrades where appropriate. Lead the effort for standardization and continued improvement across sites, i.e., reduce SKU variation, Consignment programs, JIT and KanBan systems. The role is to manage and supervise; they will also be responsible for complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of the company. The individual will also participate in development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs and people. Ensure budgets and schedules meet corporate requirements. Nature of Duties/Responsibilities: Key focus is on leadership and motivation of staff, and contributing advanced Supply Chain, Planning, Purchasing and Inventory management expertise. Responsible for all Planning, Quotes, and Purchasing functions to ensure that the group's objectives and processes align with the overall business direction; supports employees to achieve their objectives, and removes barriers to success. Develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures in compliance with corporate procurement systems. Works with employees to plan, assign, and monitor individual objectives and activities based on overall group priorities, and company strategy. Provides useful and timely feedback to staff members on their performance and development plan. Takes the lead on difficult employee situations. Responsible for defining and establishing Supply Chain programs and processes that optimize company effectiveness. Oversees all Supply Chain, Quotes and Purchasing functions, ensuring compliance with relevant company policies and procedures, legislation and industry standards. Effectively liaises with suppliers to ensure strategies, programs and processes required to meet business goals and objectives are implemented and performance is monitored. Ensures corrective actions plans are documented and instituted quickly for all performance levels under standard. Provides various complex reports, analyses, and recommendations as defined by management, both on a regular and ad hoc basis. Manages deliverables agreed to for the group overall, providing management with regular updates, identifying issues, barriers, and solutions. Has full and in-depth knowledge of Supply Chain Programs such as VMI, VCI and EDI. Works with teams from both the vendor and internally to ensure that manufacturing and demand are synchronized. The role is interdisciplinary, spanning logistics and distribution, purchasing, manufacturing, inventory management, marketing and product development. Works closely with customer-focused teams to fully understand planned volumes to be manufactured and then participating in Sales and Operations Planning meetings. 20% to 30% travel will be required. No international travel at this time. Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree required in Operations Management, Purchasing/Procurement, Supply Chain; MBA a plus. 10+ years experience in supply chain planning with a demonstrated knowledge of MPS and MRP purchasing/planning systems. Oracle experience is a plus. Industry experience in PCB, Integrated Manufacturing Services for Defense and Aerospace, or related industries preferred. 5+ years managerial experience with strong technical/analytical skills. Detailed and a highly-developed tactical, problem-solving skill set. High tolerance for changing priorities with a keen sense of urgency. Demonstrated, positive leadership practices in a fast-paced environment and ability to both manage and work collaboratively with others to achieve desired business results. Excellent communications skills for effective interface with internal and external contacts. Financial analysis or cost accounting experience desirable.
