Calvert Impact, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (“Calvert Impact”), is sole member of Climate United. The successful candidate will be employed by Calvert Impact or one of its subsidiaries.

Climate United Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to advancing an equitable clean energy transition, is seeking a full-time Director of Finance and Accounting. This role will oversee the management and strategic deployment of financial resources, including grants, investments, and cash flow. Reporting to the VP, Accounting & Reporting, the Director will ensure the efficient utilization of funds to support Climate United's mission.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the VP of Accounting and Reporting to develop and implement accounting policies and procedures aligned with GAAP and risk management best practices.

Utilize Intacct accounting software to capture transactions for optimal data reporting.

Hire, train, and develop a team of accounting professionals to manage day-to-day operations, including cash flow, revenue recognition, asset recordation, receivables, accounts payable, and payroll.

Oversee month-end and quarter-end close processes, including the preparation of financial statements and internal budget-to-actual reports.

Prepare reconciliations, supporting schedules, and work papers for audits and cash flow forecasting.

Ensure timely completion and submission of required EPA reporting.

Ensure timely completion of annual tax filings and reports.

Plan year-end close processes and manage annual audits, including federal Single Audit compliance.

Serve as the point of contact for accounting-related inquiries and support internal and external reporting needs.

Manage a cashflow ensuring sufficient cash on hand to fund key transactions and operating expenses.

Ensure compliance with federal grant reporting requirements and assist with grant-related information.

Monitor and evaluate accounting systems and processes for optimization.

Coordinate with Treasury, Compliance, and Investment teams for accurate financial reporting and strategic planning.

Support the annual budgeting process for the organization and coalition partners.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field; CPA or relevant certification preferred.

At least 7 years of experience managing full-cycle accounting and financial reporting, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.

Grants management experience and familiarity with 2 CFR 200 is a significant plus.

Proficiency with Sage Intacct or similar accounting software.

Advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex financial concepts to diverse audiences.

Experience implementing and maintaining accounting and reporting systems.

Strong organizational and leadership skills, with experience managing hybrid/remote teams and building cross-divisional relationships.

Passion for the mission and values of Climate United, with a commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Experience in cash disbursements, accounts payable, and expense reimbursement processes.

Knowledge of payroll and timekeeping administration.

Experience with financial compliance, including IRS Form 990 and 1099 preparations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in a relevant field.

Ability to work onsite in Bethesda, MD at least 3 days a week.
