Position Description:
The Senior Director of Business Development supports Washington Dairy’s goals by working directly with local dairy brands and industry partners to support and build initiatives that drive catalytic growth for the industry in key sales channels including brick-and-mortar retail, e-commerce, export, food service, and food access. This position builds and maintains relationships with key partners to execute channel-focused initiatives that inspire trust in dairy, increasing demand and driving sales. This position will leverage consumer research, channel data and analytics, and sales channel expertise including marketing, brand-building, and category management practices to enhance existing and build new markets for dairy domestically and abroad.
A collaborative, innovative, and proactive approach, while maintaining focus on measurement will be key to success in this position. The dairy industry is fast-paced and constantly evolving to meet consumer demand; willingness to anticipate change, and to adapt and learn while delivering results is a must.
Position Activities:
Initiate and manage programs that support business development needs of Washington dairy brands including product sales and promotion, product innovation, market insights, market development and growth, and other relevant areas.
Participate in industry working groups regionally and nationally to execute projects across relevant sales channels.
Experience developing, executing, and measuring promotional sales events.
Analyze market and industry trends, incorporating insights into comprehensive business development strategies.
Provide yearly measurements, reporting and analytics for stakeholders.
Collaborate with national partners on primary research, shared learnings, and best practices.
Coordinate and evaluate existing and new channel promotions, events and partnerships.
Facilitate partnerships that help Washington brands capitalize on export opportunities.
Integrate internal marketing efforts to amplify and increase effectiveness of sales channel initiatives.
Build understanding of and relationships within the dairy supply chain to support dairy brands.
Use data to inform discussions and drive decision-making in line with DFW mission.
Increase awareness and sales in key e-commerce channels at the category and/or brand level.
Team Support:
Direct and supervise staff on the Business Development Team to implement programming while supporting continuous growth and development.
Collaborate with management on strategy development, effective management, decision-making, staff communication, and other activities to advance organizational goals and culture.
Create and implement initiatives that foster partnerships that drive positive outcomes for dairy farmers, processors, and consumers.
Provide coaching, mentoring, recommendations, feedback, and support to team members across the organization.
Determine and manage an annual program budget.
Provide program measurement and reporting for key stakeholders and industry update for annual reporting.
Requirements:
Four-year college degree in business, marketing, communications, related field or equivalent.
Coursework or relevant experience in agriculture, food science, or related field preferred.
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in sales, marketing, or related business.
Minimum 5 years of experience managing a team.
Experience in food and beverage, consumer packaged goods, or international markets preferred.
Demonstrated experience in or understanding of food and beverage distribution channels including retail and food service.
Experience in e-commerce and key channel platforms including Amazon and Instacart.
Ability to understand and communicate industry data and trends, and identify opportunities to support category growth in domestic and international markets.
Demonstrated experience in strategic business planning with successful execution.
Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
Strong project management skills, including time and task management.
Ability to take initiative and move on new ideas.
Well-organized and detail-oriented with good follow-through.
Critical thinking with the ability to anticipate and resolve problems.
Passion for tracking success and showing value.
Willingness to travel and work a flexible schedule.
Proven ability to work collaboratively and creatively with diverse teams.
