We are seeking a
Training & Compliance Specialist
on our Team to support the mission of the Office of the JHU Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC) to assure university compliance with federal regulations and policies governing the use of animals in research, and to assure that the animal program remains fully accredited. Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Will work with the current Training and Compliance Specialist team to: Assist with the management of the Committee's semi-annual inspections, resulting deficiency notices, follow-ups, and reports; for all areas of JHU in which animals are housed or used in research, teaching, and testing. Conduct monthly rounds to animal facilities, satellite housing locations, and labs. With the other Training and Compliance Specialists, perform focused compliance inspections in the winter & summer. Prereview and log animal use forms. Assist with keeping up to date on federal and state regulations and policies governing the use of animals in research. Conduct literature searches. Teach classes and provide hands-on animal training to lab and animal care personnel. Carry out protocol post-approval monitoring (PAM) visits to laboratories and satellite housing locations; this includes interviewing personnel, and looking at records, logs, and equipment. Observe animal care and lab personnel for proficiency in awake animal use procedures. Prepare communication materials, postcards, handouts, billboards. Fact-find and evaluate possible noncompliant animal-related issues. Review approved protocols for specific procedures. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Excellent verbal and written communications skills required. Must be computer literate, and able to work with office management, presentation, and training software. Excellent interpersonal skills required. Must be able to communicate tactfully. Ability to work cooperatively with others required. Attention to detail required. Will need to become familiar with federal regulations and policies regarding the roles and responsibilities of Animal Care and Use Committees if not already conversant. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, Psychology, Behavioral Biology, or other related field. Some experience in laboratory animal research, laboratory animal care, or a training & compliance position. Additional experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Preferred Qualifications
Experience with atypical research species a plus. Four years related experience preferred. LAT or LATG certification or veterinary technician training strongly preferred. Classified Title:
