About the role:
New America is seeking a full-time AV Technician to support multiple daily in-studio, virtual, and hybrid events in the New America Studio. The ideal candidate has at least five years of experience working in AV for live event settings. The AV Technician will report to the Technical Director, and will work closely with the Studio Manager and Podcast Production Lead, Director of Communications, and events staff on live in-person and virtual events.
This position is expected to start in early 2025. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
Responsibilities:
Audiovisual for live events: Execute audiovisual functions for in-person and live-streamed events, including video switching, camera operation, audio mixing, microphone management, and lighting Operate Robo PTZ and manual cameras, and manage the sound board when needed Support the Technical Director and Studio Manager in coordinating and managing a roster of AV freelancers Learn and proficiently use all studio systems and equipment required for events Coordinate rehearsal and planning meetings in advance of events Collaborate with studio staff, contractors, and internal/external organizers Manage remote speaker connections for in-person events Perform stage management duties, including cueing event participants and addressing the audience when needed Assist with virtual event production via Zoom Act as a backup technical director for event AV production Experience with virtual/hybrid events using Zoom, vMix, and/or Youtube Qualifications:
Candidates for this position should have the following:
A bachelor's degree or equivalent in work experience 5+ years of experience working with AV for live event settings At least 1 year of experience operating cameras and sound boards At least 1 year of experience working with vMix or similar software based switching and PTZ cameras; Strong proficiency with Windows and Mac operating systems Deep understanding of lavalier and handheld microphones Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team Calm demeanor and ability to work well under pressure in a live setting Strong attention to detail Excellent communication skills Experience with live-streaming events (or broadcasting) Punctual and dependable Willingness to learn new systems and technologies Video editing experience is a plus
Location:
This is an on-site Washington, DC-based position. You will be in the office depending on that week's events schedule, with flexibility to work from home on days when New America is not hosting events or convenings, or when not in conflict with event setup, pre-production, or post-production activities. Role responsibilities may occasionally require early morning or evening hours.
Compensation and benefits:
This position is a full-time role with benefits. The salary range for this position is expected to be $75,000-$90,000 and will be determined based on the successful candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills.
