The Global Poverty Research Lab (GPRL) is a research center based at Northwestern University that generates empirical evidence on the effectiveness of policies and programs in more than 10 countries in the Americas, sub-Saharan Africa, China, and Southeast Asia. Our projects examine the interaction between poverty and topics such as finance, entrepreneurship, education, gender, psychological well-being, agriculture, and the environment. We believe we can produce more and better research by creating a common infrastructure whether geographic or thematic, upon which to engage in research and policy work. Geographic research clusters in Ghana and the Philippines collect long-term panel data on economic and social outcomes. The China research cluster aims to promote rigorous empirical research on the Chinese economy. Our researchers also work to improve research methodologies for using survey data, machine learning, and meta-analysis in the context of international development through the Research Methods Initiative, in collaboration with Innovations for Poverty Action. The Lab's newly launched Evidence to Policy Research Initiative (EPRI) is a multidisciplinary working group of Northwestern faculty who work on policy-related research to understand barriers to evidence adoption in policymaking more broadly. Job Summary GPRL is looking to hire a full-time Senior Research Project Coordinator to work with Principal Investigators and Research Managers on the design, implementation and management of randomized evaluations, support the management of a team of research analysts and to work with other staff on building institutional resources. This position offers an opportunity to support innovative research in the field of Development Economics and to create institutional knowledge to improve research quality. The Senior Research Project Coordinator might also support data analysis activities. Specific Responsibilities: Project Management and support Support the design and implementation of various studies in coordination with other staff. Support project management by ensuring adherence to quality protocols and tracking timelines. Support PIs and Research Managers in project development efforts, including donor and partner cultivation. Assist in the writing of project reports, funding proposals, meetings coordination and public outreach. Working with Research Managers and IPA staff to ensure compliance with data quality protocols during analysis and data publication phases. Conduct literature reviews and assist in the writing of academic papers. Support grant proposals and project reports. Team management and capacity building Managing Research Analysts and collaborating with Research Managers on overall team supervision. This includes hiring, onboarding, assigning work, coordinating team activities, troubleshooting support, monitoring performance, etc. Identifying training opportunities for research staff. Resource Development Work with Research Managers on overall resource creation agenda. Setting up or supervising systems for incorporating data quality checks and proper data management in multiple projects. Miscellaneous Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances) Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in economics, public policy, social science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 3 years' research study or other relevant experience required; OR Successful completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a master's or higher degree in a major such as economics, public policy, social science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and experience and 1 year research study or other relevant experience. Supervisory or project management experience. Experience managing RCTs. Experience and/or strong interest in providing in-person or remote support to both research and non-research staff. Experience and/or interest in identifying opportunities for resource development and for improving systems. Experience working in a developing country conducting data collection activities for research. Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.) Excellent organizational and project management skills. Fluency and excellent communication skills in English. Flexible, self-motivating, able to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Demonstrated ability to work well in teams and collaborate effectively. Strong analytical skills. Knowledge of Stata. Knowledge of randomized controlled trials methodology statistics and econometrics. Flexibility to travel internationally. Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience) An enthusiasm for empirical research, and the ability and interest to learn new skills. Strong interest in international development work. Master's degree in economics, social sciences, public policy, or related fields. Three to five years of relevant experience. Experience living and conducting field research in a developing country is a strong plus. Experience with data analysis or data collection on randomized controlled trials (strongly preferred). Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities) Experience working with digital data collection platforms (such as SurveyCTO). Knowledge of other data analysis software like R, Python, and Tableau. Target hiring range for this position will be between $75,000 - $77,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
