Network Engineer

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Network Engineer plays a critical role in supporting High's networking and telecommunications systems. The role maintains and supports local and wide area-networking (LAN/WAN) and telecommunications related systems that are both on premise and cloud-based. Areas of responsibility include all voice and data network systems for High's primary and secondary data centers, cloud providers and various strategic business units. Additional responsibilities include interfacing with key telecommunications and network services related partners and providing tier I-III support across High's various businesses, on-premise data centers and cloud environments.
Within this scope of responsibilities, this position will be responsible for completing projects and operating a highly effective operations function.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, TRAINING, AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Networking, or a related field. CCNA, CCNP, CCIA, Network+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate, CISSP preferred but not required. 3-5 years of recent experience implementing and operating networking and telecommunications related solutions (technology, infrastructure, tools, and services). Experience in and knowledge of some or all of the following technology areas: LAN/WAN/VPN/Wireless/remote access technologies, concepts, hardware (switch, router, firewall, access gateways) Routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, NAT Secure network design (zones, DMZs, bastion hosts) Security controls such as network segmentation, NAC, Firewall, IPS/IDS, MFA, IPS/IDS, proxies, RADIUS, etc Networking and security related to Microsoft365 (365 Services), and Azure including supporting and maintaining Azure networking solutions (hybrid networking, connectivity, routing, security, and private access to High's Azure services) Connectivity infrastructures including LAN, WAN, WDM, MPLS, ISP and Broadband circuits Telephone and video systems Scripting languages Network monitoring and IP Address management solutions Migrating customers to new technologies or services (new hardware versions, cloud services, etc) Network device configuration and cabling standards
Working experience with, but not limited to, the following process and technology areas: Incident, problem management and change management Patching, lifecycle planning, asset management, configuration management, systems monitoring. Windows & Linux operating systems

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical details into business language and relate technical concepts to a business impact. Problem-solving skills for networks, applications, and business processes with ability to identify root cause issues. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: The Network Engineer operates as part of the dynamic network team under the Team Lead Network Services. The Network Engineer has responsibility for supporting network and telecommunications processes and relating technology across the 11 companies that constitute High.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Support the executing of networking and telecommunications related projects. Collaborate with the Client Computing, Server, Cybersecurity, Enterprise Solutions, and Business Intelligence teams regarding Networking and Telecommunications related architectures and solutions. Assist in requirements gathering, design, implementation, and enhancement of networking and telecommunications related solutions. Support the proper operations of firewalls, routers, network access control solutions (NAC), email filters, MS365/Azure services, DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, proxy, network segmentation, routing, switching, remote access, other network-based solutions. Support the proper operations of voice hardware/software including but not limited to IP PBX server (on premise and cloud), VoIP phones, voice circuits, room based and desktop video systems, and other supported infrastructure devices. Support connectivity infrastructures including LAN, WAN, WDM, MPLS, ISP and Broadband circuits. Support and maintain all aspects of High's networking and telecommunications systems. Support monitoring tools, perform monitoring of services and measure effectiveness. Serve as a point of escalation for team members' issues requiring a higher degree of expertise or direction to resolve and ensure timely resolution. Support life-cycle management for networking and telecommunications related systems. Possess the ability to solve and troubleshoot issues surrounding LAN/WAN and voice services in a timely and professional manner. Oversee various locations that house network equipment from a physical and environmental perspective. Regularly evaluate industry trends, changes, innovations, and maturity to recommend and plan the introduction of new technologies. Support development and maintenance of best-practice standards, policies, procedures to ensure optimal daily operations are maintained. Provide 24x7x365 response and support after hours for critical IT incidents when designated on-call. Periodically work off hours (nights and weekends) to complete planned operations or project work.
