Dreamscape Learn, a leader in immersive virtual reality entertainment and educational design, is seeking a seasoned Controller to oversee and manage our financial operations. This critical role will ensure the integrity of our financial reporting while supporting the scalability of our business in the rapidly evolving VR landscape. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with high-growth startups, a strong track record of building and mentoring teams, and the expertise to lead financial processes and analysis.
As Controller, you will play an integral role in driving financial performance, optimizing systems and processes, and providing valuable insights that support strategic decision-making across the company.
The role is based in LA with a hybrid work environment and reports directly to the CFO.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and vision for scaling the accounting team and our financial infrastructure.
Help drive opportunities for process improvements and automation, optimize the ERP (Netsuite) and other accounting systems and tools, and help lead the implementation of best practices for accounting processes.
Ensure consistent implementation of accounting principles and procedures in compliance with US GAAP, including staying up to date on the latest FASB and SEC guidance.
Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements with variance analysis.
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.
Implement and enforce financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Oversee the annual audit process and ensure compliance with all applicable accounting standards (GAAP) and regulations.
Manage income tax filings; ensure compliance with sales tax regulations; and oversee R&D tax credit filings.
Oversee and manage the company's equity administration, ensuring accuracy and compliance in cap table management, stock option grants, and related reporting, while collaborating with legal, HR, and external stakeholders to support equity-related initiatives.
Analyze financial data, providing strategic insights and recommendations to senior management. Prepare financial reports and presentations for stakeholders.
Mentor and develop finance team members.
Minimum Requirements:
CPA (or equivalent) with a minimum of 10+ years of US GAAP experience. SEC experience with a public company a plus; previous controller experience.
Strong technical accounting skills, including ability to independently analyze transactions and contracts and document related accounting analysis under GAAP.
Extensive ERP systems experience (Netsuite a plus) and advanced proficiency in Excel.
Knowledge of stock-based compensation accounting requirements, with experience using Carta or equivalent SBC platform.
Proven experience handling annual audits and working with both internal and external audit functions.
Experience with acquisitions, integration activities, and managing financing rounds or debt structures.
Ability to work in a fast-paced startup environment and adapt to changing priorities.
Proven success in leading cross-functional projects and influencing key business decisions.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to management.
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written.
Experience in the technology or entertainment sectors is a plus.
Compensation:
