As the Senior Tax Accountant, you will experience all aspects of a corporate tax department while being mentored by seasoned team members. You will be involved in a wide range of sales & use tax, unclaimed property, property tax, and corporate income tax projects. In our complex, multi-state, multi-unit environment, you’ll interact with multiple departments across the organization, including Accounts Payable, Payroll, Finance, IT, Legal, Internal Audit, and Restaurant Operations. Reporting to the Indirect Tax Manager, you will work on a team of seven tax professionals located in Calabasas Hills, CA, while supporting the tax efforts. Here’s more of what you’ll get to do:
Be a key team member of the sales and use tax compliance function, which encompasses 38 states, DC, Puerto Rico, and Canada, with over $15 million in monthly remittances. Complete timely reconciliations and analyses of sales and use tax accounts and various schedules. Communicate regularly with vendors and taxing agencies on sales and use tax matters, exemption certificates and resolution of notices. Review and analyze fixed asset purchases for use tax accruals and appropriate treatment for income tax and property tax. Assist senior management in defending the company during audits and appeals. Support the income tax function by preparing gross receipts tax returns and schedules for estimated payments and SEC reporting. Collaborate on unclaimed property due diligence and compliance. Conduct online research and analysis of various tax laws and regulations. Coordinate with outside service providers on personal property tax compliance and remittance matters. Maintain and update Microsoft Excel workbooks with complex formulas.
What we require:
3+ years of tax experience within the finance department of a large multi-state company, public accounting firm, or equivalent government experience. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field. Strong command of Microsoft Excel. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must be able to meet critical deadlines, prioritize duties, manage time efficiently, and multi-task effectively. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
What we prefer: Corporate tax experience. Experience with domestic indirect taxes, a plus. Familiarity with ERP systems and web-based research tools. Sales Tax CMI, a plus. Experience with automation tools like Power BI, Power Automate, or Alteryx.
