The Maryland Department of Transportation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Financial Reporting (Fiscal Services Administrator VI) to join our team.
The Director of Financial Reporting is a critical member of the Finance Senior Management team responsible for financial reporting ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and practices. This position directly oversees the day-to-day operations of the unit at the Secretary's Office providing support, direction, and strategic oversight on reporting matters of each of the transportation modes within MDOT.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Develop, implement, and manage new and revised fiscal policies, procedures, and standards.
Develop, implement, and maintain an effective internal control framework to protect from fraud and waste.
Assist in ensuring the accounting operations of the department are in compliance.
Serve as audit liaison, and ensure corrective actions are taken in response to audit findings.
Assist in overseeing department's year end closing process.
Prepare MDOT's annual comprehensive financial report.
The current vacancy exists at MDOT TSO in the Office of Finance, which is located in Hanover, MD (Anne Arundel County).
This position may allow a hybrid work schedule, including telework and on-site work hours.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Possession of a bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, public or business administration, finance, economics or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience:
Seven (7) years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting, fiscal, or related fields. Five (5) years of this experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.
The ideal candidate will possess:
CPA Certified
Previous experience in governmental finance.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel.

U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Licenses & Certifications
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties may be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.
