Position Overview The Public Safety Shared Services Center’s (PSSSC) Compliance and Control Unit is seeking to hire a Human Resource Specialist to serve as the lead worker and Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Coordinator. This position provides direction and guidance to Agency field staff regarding requirements of FMLA, Parental Leaves, and FMLA related leaves of absence. Responsibilities also include conducting statewide training, assigns and reviews work to the leave of absence coordinator; and advises immediate supervisor regarding performance of staff. The preferred candidate shall have experience administering FMLA, interpreting Collective Bargaining Contracts, Personnel Rules, policies and procedures relating to leaves of absence; American with Disabilities Act (ADA); and public training. We strongly encourage all qualified candidates to apply. Essential Functions Serves as the Public Safety Shared Services Center’s coordinator for the FMLA for assigned Public Safety Agencies. Provides on-site advice, training and guidance to employees and supervisors on the provision of FMLA. Serves as designated lead worker. Responds to sensitive and controversial inquires related to FMLA. Reviews Pregnancy Certification forms to ensure requirements of the Collective Bargaining Contracts and CMS Personnel Rules are met. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above. Specialized Skills Requires two (2) years of professional human resources experience working with the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Requires two (2) years of professional working experience interpreting and applying the Illinois Personnel Code, Personnel Rules, and Collective Bargaining contracts. Requires one (1) year of experience utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel. Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college. Requires two (2) years of professional human resources experience. Preferred Qualifications Prefers at least two (2) years of professional human resources experience working with the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Prefers at least two (2) years of human resources experience with leaves of absence. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience interpreting and applying personnel rules, collective bargaining contracts, and personnel policies and procedures. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Prefers at least one (1) year of experience utilizing Adobe Pro, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel, or similar software. Prefers at least one (1) year of experience with Public Act 98-1050, Pregnancy and Your Rights in the Workplace. Prefers at least one (1) year of conducting public training. Conditions of Employment Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
