BUYER - RAW MATERIALS 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Source and negotiate purchases for raw metal products (i.e. rolled plate, forgings, extrusions, powders, tubes)
  • Develop and lead commodity strategies for raw metals from cradle to grave
  • Negotiate and execute long term agreements with strategic suppliers
  • Be the “go to” resource for engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and new product introduction teams when determining best value suppliers, NPI sourcing plans, make vs. buy, should cost, buy complete strategies, and lead times, etc.
  • Lead Supplier Quality, Development, and Performance teams to execute the strategic Procurement vision
  • Build cross functional teams and champion continuous improvement initiatives for cost, quality, and delivery
  • Drive design for manufacturability reviews with support from supplier quality and engineering
  • Champion value add and value engineering projects to improve part quality and reduce cost
  • Mitigate sole/single source risk and ensure continuity of supply
  • Proactively update SpaceX management and engineering teams on all critical supply issues
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships
  • Visit supplier’s facilities and accurately assess technical capability, equipment, and capacity
  • Generate purchase orders and resolve purchase order discrepancies and invoice issues
  • Execute MRP Planning messages for production parts
  • Analyze procurement data (i.e. supplier spend, subcommodity spend, raw metal index prices) and report metrics (i.e. on time delivery, quality issue count)
  • Administer moderate to large contracts and independently negotiate with suppliers contract terminology, pricing, technical requirements, scope and terms involving responsibility, liability, indemnification, and intellectual property
  • Act as liaison with external and internal customers on all matters affecting contractual agreements
  • Interpret the conditions and terms of contracts including fiscal and legal implications and advise management on all significant procedures and regulations affecting the contract
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures and government regulations

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, engineering or similar technical discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years of technical procurement experience

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience reading datasheets, drawings and blueprints
  • Experience in production procurement
  • Understanding of production planning theory and practice
  • Economic knowledge of raw metal commodities
  • Experience in manufacturing, procurement, and/or sales of metal products
  • Moderate to advance skills in current technology and applications, ie. MS Excel, SQL
  • Exceptional analytical, problem solving skills
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Proven track record of leadership and team building skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. Experience in reporting, hosting meetings, and delivering presentations
  • Excellent customer service and soft skills. Must be a people person. Must be able to orchestrate and influence diverse groups of people
  • Ability to learn quickly and prioritize appropriately to meet customer and company needs
  • Self-motivated and resourceful. Takes initiative without specific, black and white instructions
  • Thrives in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment with critical deadlines
  • Comfortable in high stakes situations
  • Conducts all activities with the highest of integrity

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to work long hours and weekends as needed
  • Able to travel for short and extended trips as needed
