LEAD DATA SCIENTIST
ABOUT YOU:
Are you a data science expert with a passion for leveraging advanced analytics to drive strategic decisions? Jostens is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to spearhead analytical initiatives and unlock the potential of our combined businesses serving schools (yearbook, scholastic, and college). This enterprise-level role will focus on providing business-critical insights to optimize merchandising, commercial performance, and go-to-market strategies.
YOU HAVE:
Educational Excellence. Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Applied Statistics, Mathematics, or a relevant engineering discipline.
Proven Experience. At least 5 years of relevant experience in analytics, modeling, or software development, including hands-on coding and data engineering skills.
Technical Expertise. Proficiency in Python and SQL, advanced statistical modeling (gradient boosting, regression, k-means clustering), and a deep understanding of probabilistic modeling approaches.
Big Data Mastery. Expertise in big data principles, ETL processes, and integration of fragmented or inconsistent data systems.
Analytical Acumen. Ability to identify and address biases in datasets, ensuring robust and generalizable models.
Strong Communication. Skilled in translating technical concepts into business language for diverse audiences.
Leadership Skills. Experience coaching and mentoring analysts or data scientists, fostering a collaborative and impact-driven team environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., mathematics, physics, computer science, or engineering), with experience in AWS SageMaker, JupyterLab, Snowflake, or similar Cloud Analytics Data Warehouse technologies, and proven expertise in presenting complex projects to non-technical teams and stakeholders.
YOU WILL:
Transform Data into Insights. Analyze complex raw data to generate strategic insights using advanced analytical and statistical techniques.
Lead Data Initiatives. Develop, test, and refine base data models; implement APIs and ingestion scripts; and create explanatory, predictive, and optimized models using machine learning, Bayesian statistics, and regression techniques.
Automate & Innovate. Apply machine learning to automate model improvements and generate precise, actionable insights that outperform traditional methods.
Define Strategic Projects. Gather business requirements for data science projects, align them with strategic goals, and oversee execution from concept to completion.
Guide Decision-Making. Provide insights to inform product strategies, pricing, packaging, and offers that drive performance and impact go-to-market strategies.
Mentor & Lead. Manage and develop a data scientist, providing guidance, career development, and technical mentorship.
Communicate Clearly. Present complex data insights and findings to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders in a clear, concise manner.
Foster Collaboration. Build relationships with key stakeholders to align analytical initiatives with organizational goals.

Our Marketing team leverages digital marketing strategies and tactics focused on schools, independent sales reps, parents, and students to deliver the right message, to the right customer, at the right time. Team members will understand and leverage customer insights through data analysis & testing to then create experiences and relevant content throughout the customer journey and to support our specialized products lines including Yearbooks, Class Rings, Graduation Products, and Professional Sports. Through executing across a variety of consumer touchpoints on jostens.com, social, e-mail and print materials, the team collaborates with internal partners to create relevant and timely marketing campaigns to meet the needs of our customers.
