TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time, Exempt

POSITION OVERVIEW:

I Love A Clean San Diego (ILACSD) is seeking an experienced Director of Finance who is the head of accounting and oversees financial operations. This hybrid role will be responsible for the overall management of the financial operations and is involved in the planning, organizing, and budgeting of financial resources. Additionally, this position provides supervision over an Accounting Coordinator, who assists with the accounting, administrative, and billing efforts of the organization. As a key member of the leadership team, this position will also provide strategic financial guidance and collaborate across departments to support ILACSD’s mission, long-term goals, and fiscal success.

Areas of Responsibility:

  1. Accounting & Financial Controls: 60%
    1. Manage accounts receivable, payable and reconciliation of balance sheets, cash flow, bank statements, and general ledger.
    2. Follow accounting policies and procedures to meet both current and future business models.
    3. Oversee the continuous improvement of accounting and financial processes including annual budget planning and the external audit.
    4. Develop cash flow forecasting and manage banking relationships.
    5. Administer payroll systems, processes, controls for efficiency and compliance.
    6. Ensure the organization is in compliance with all internal policies and relevant regulations and ensure filings are completed in a timely manner.
    7. Work with the Executive Director and/or Board Finance Committee to design the company’s financial policies, rules and regulations, and see that all departments adhere to policies.
  2. Contract Compliance and Development: 20%
    1. Oversee compliance of government contracts and grants, including invoicing, tracking, and calculation of overhead and staff rates.
    2. Work with Contract lead on contract reporting including legal, invoicing questions, timesheet questions, waivers, and client correspondence/questions.
    3. Assist in the development of budgets for grants and programs with the Development department.
    4. Develop financial reports or dashboards for donor engagement, using tools like Excel and QuickBooks.
    5. Responsible for the management of the organization’s insurance and risk management program.
    6. Oversee the annual insurance renewal process and ensure appropriate coverage is maintained at all times.
  3. Management & Administrative: 20%
    1. Develop regular reporting and analyses, including key metrics, and conduct as needed financial projections (end of year, quarterly, average staff rates).
    2. Present monthly and year-to-date financials to the Executive Director and Board Finance committee with accompanying analysis of results.
    3. Communicate with Executive Director about organizational risk, reviewing fiscal impacts, and any correspondence needed with board of directors.
    4. Oversee payroll and HR administration through current vendor Gusto; including staff onboarding, benefits, 403(b) program, and compliance with all CA labor laws.
    5. Supervise direct reports and conduct semi-annual performance reviews.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Three to five years of experience or more in a supervisory accounting role.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent.
  3. Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant preferred.
  4. Understanding of and experience in GAAP and nonprofit accounting are required.
  5. Proficient using automated accounting systems (i.e. QuickBooks) and proficiency with all Microsoft applications.
  6. Satisfactory annual credit and background check is required due to access to bank information, payment processing and position of trust.
  7. Must have access to reliable transportation.
  8. Be able and willing to work flexible hours as needed, which may include weekends or evenings.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  1. Full-time, Exempt
  2. Hybrid-remote work flexibility with on-site support
  3. $95,000-$110,000 annually, commensurate with experience
  4. Paid time off (PTO) plan (after 60 days) including generous paid holiday schedule
  5. Employer-sponsored health (HMO) and dental plans (PPO)
  6. 403b program with match opportunity (after 90 days)
