Head Sports Nutritionist

oversees the Sports Nutrition Program for the Athletics Department. Oversee the implementation of performance-based nutrition programming and protocols for all student-athletes, as well as serve as the primary point of contact for student-athletes, coaches, staff, and administrators. Overseeing and managing the budget for sports nutrition foods and supplements, food service operations at fueling stations, and educational programming for all FIU student-athletes, teams, coaches, and athletics staff. Coordinating and facilitating student-athlete body composition services, dietary supplement evaluations, and working in consultation with the FIU Sports Medicine staff on medical nutrition therapy (MNT) recommendations for FIU student-athletes. Providing Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) as needed to aid in the management of medical conditions. Providing individual and group nutrition counseling and education to enhance the performance and health of student-athletes. Manage and supervise the ordering, inventory, and procurement of goods through necessary vendors for all athletic fueling stations. Develop and deliver nutrition counseling and plate coaching to student-athletes. Maintain documentation of individual counseling sessions and performance testing data. Evaluate and monitor the use of dietary supplements for quality, safety, efficacy, and legality. Educate teams on the use of supplements, ergogenic aids, and banned substances. Address nutritional challenges related to performance (e.g., food allergies and restrictions, GI disturbances, nutrient deficiencies, and special dietary needs). Counsel athletes on appropriate nutrition for recovery from illness and injury. Collaborate and communicate with Sports Medicine, Strength and Conditioning, Physicians, Mental Health and Performance, and other departments within FIU Athletics. Participate as a leader and member of the multi-disciplinary disordered eating task force. Participate in recruiting visits for all teams as needed; conduct team camp/recruiting talks upon the request of team staff. Collaborate with vendors and the contracted food service department to manage food and supplement inventory. Assist teams with meals, menu planning, and game-time fueling for home and travel competitions, as well as meals incidental to participation. Coordinate pre-season fueling and meals for practices, as well as snacks for teams. Conduct team talks, including grocery store tours, cooking demonstrations, team nutrition guides, and nutrition area signage. Attend and participate in professional development opportunities and complete continuing education requirements. Adheres to all State of Florida, University, NCAA, Conference USA and department rules and policies pertaining to the position of Head Sports Nutritionist. Report any known NCAA violations or concerns to the Director of Athletic Compliance and be responsible for the monitoring of any subordinate as it relates to NCAA regulations. Oversee, manage and inventory control of the isotonic beverage sideline package for the department. Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in Dietetics and Nutrition and two (2) years of experience. Registered Dietitian.
