Job Description:
The Accessibility Resources for Students office is seeking an academic coach to offer guidance and learning strategies to academic success for students with disabilities. In this role, the Academic Coach provides holistic advising for students' academic performance and achievement. The academic coach will support a caseload of students desiring to maximize their learning, organizational skills, time management, and more. The primary focus is to develop a working partnership with individual students to identify barriers to success, formulate plans to address the barriers, and equip students with the necessary skills and strategies for long-term success.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducts academic coaching through individual sessions that help students identify barriers to academic success while developing and implementing learning strategies specific to their needs.
Assists students with disabilities in developing executive functioning skills including procrastination, organization, time management, self-advocacy, and motivational skills.
Guides students in navigating Berklee and Accessibility Resources processes.
Advises students on alternative format and assistive technologies.
Tracks progress of students in caseload with check-ins, scheduled meetings, and email communications.
Maintains accurate and confidential student records within Accessibility Information Management system (AIM) student database including student information, notes, and communication.
Collaborates and connects students to on-campus success resources such as Student Success Advising, Student Wellness Promotion and Services, and Student Success Programming.
Develops program initiatives for entering students with disabilities to facilitate navigating and accessing the Berklee curriculum and resources.
Advises coaching groups some evenings, along with mid-day drop-in hours.
Collaborates and engages with other academic coaching focus areas at Berklee to ensure a holistic coaching experience for students.
Qualifications:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a master’s degree program, graduate program, graduate certificate, or post-bachelor program in higher education, student affairs, counseling, music, or a related field.
Enthusiasm with the desire to help students succeed.
Ability to work collaboratively with other students, faculty, and staff.
Possess an understanding and sensitivity to concerns and access issues faced by students with disabilities in a higher education setting.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Some nights and weekends required.
