About Our Internships

Our paid internship program is thoughtfully curated to provide students with experience and exposure to the healthcare industry. Interns will be given the opportunity to get hands-on experience with real work projects, build meaningful relationships and connections within the organization, and experience our mission and enterprise goals through our program curriculum centered on our leadership model (Personal, People, Thought, and Results Leadership). Our Summer 2025 Internship is June 9th or June 16th through August 15th, 2025.

Application Process and Timeline:

  • November: If you meet the requirements, you will receive an invitation to complete a Pre-Recorded Video Interview
  • November - January: 2nd round interviews & offers extended
As an intern at Blue Shield of California, you will:
  • Participate in impactful projects during a 10-week internship program
  • Undertake a 10-week curriculum designed to familiarize interns with BSC, leadership development, exposure to the healthcare industry, and more
  • Be invited to participate in BSC employee events and networking opportunities such as Employee Resource Groups, employee volunteer activities, and more
General Requirements:
  • Must reside in the state of California for the duration of the internship
  • Hybrid requirements - Preferably live within a 50-mile radius of a BSC office and be available for in-office collaboration 2 times per month
  • Must currently be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at the time of the internship, with a graduation date of December 2025 or later
Your Role

The People & Engagement team oversees our organizational Development & Learning, Total Rewards, People Strategy, Employee Relations, Talent Acquisition, Talent Mobility, and Internal Communications at Blue Shield of California. The Talent Acquisition Intern will report to the Senior Manager of Talent Acquisition who supports Customer Experience, Operations, Healthcare Business Operations, and Transformation. These business units support almost half of the enterprise expanding over 6 Vice Presidents. These business units have direct support to our members daily and play an intricate role into Blue Shield of California's success. In this role, you will deliver and collaborate on all aspects of process improvement and support the overall 2025 hiring strategies.

Responsibilities

Your Work

In this role, you will:
  • Support Talent Acquisition's overall strategy and planning to focus on our Member Touchpoint Measure for enrollment processing, claim adjudication, and first call resolution
  • Provide research and insight into trending data within the market for call centers within healthcare for hiring and training practices
  • Assist with data insights on hiring trends for our customers, and building decks to update our leaders on findings
  • Support redefining and improving the Customer Experience Hiring Practice and Processes for 2025
  • Work in fast paced environment requiring skills to be agile
Qualifications

Your Knowledge and Experience
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Learning & Development, Communications, Business, or a related field from an accredited college/university
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent business writing skills
  • Strong project planning, detail oriented and analytical skills required
  • Experience leading and working on cross-functional, cross-disciplinary projects required
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft products and other standard office productivity applications required
Pay Range:

The pay range for this role is: $25.00 to $30.00 for California.

Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.

Two Ways of Working:
  • Hybrid (Default): Work from a business unit-approved office at least two (2) times per month (for roles below Director-level) or once per week (for Director-level roles and above).Exceptions:
    • Member-facing and approved out-of-state roles remain remote.
    • Employees living more than 50 miles from their assigned offices are expected to work with their managers on a plan for periodic office visits.
    • For employees with medical conditions that may impact their ability to work in-office, we are committed to engaging in an interactive process and providing reasonable accommodations to ensure their work environment is conducive to their success and well-being.
  • On-Site: Work from a business unit-approved office an average of four (4) or more days a week.


Physical Requirements:

Office Environment - roles involving part to full time schedule in Office Environment. Based in our physical offices and work from home office/deskwork - Activity level: Sedentary, frequency most of work day.
