Summary:
The Electrical Safety & Systems Engineer, Sr works as a member of a cross-functional team responsible for new product development of large-scale energy storage systems across the product lifecycle, including design specification, prototyping, testing, release to manufacturing and support of installation and commissioning.
This position leads product electrical safety initiatives, including product level arc flash studies and transient analysis performed individually or managed through third party consultants, with ability to interpret and apply the results to improve safety across the product lifecycle. Additionally, the role will support new product development study work, concept design, electrical safety risk assessments, engineering change processes, certification projects and provide design guidance collaboratively with a team of mechanical, electrical and electronic design engineers locally and globally. As a senior member of the team, the Electrical Safety & Systems Engineer, Sr will assist with prioritization and planning, represent the electrical product team in cross-functional design reviews and undertake mentoring activities of electrical engineers locally and globally.

Compensation for this position is commensurate with location, experience and relevant skills. The national Average Base Salary Range is $124,000-$176,000. Positions may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus based on company and personal performance. Summary:
The Electrical Safety & Systems Engineer, Sr works as a member of a cross-functional team responsible for new product development of large-scale energy storage systems across the product lifecycle, including design specification, prototyping, testing, release to manufacturing and support of installation and commissioning.

As a senior member of the team, the Electrical Safety & Systems Engineer, Sr will assist with prioritization and planning, represent the electrical product team in cross-functional design reviews and undertake mentoring activities of electrical engineers locally and globally.
Job Details:
- Lead product level AC and DC electrical system studies for grid scale energy storage systems, including short circuit analysis, arc flash studies, load studies, component sizing, DC fuse coordination and AC coordination
- Independently manage third party consultants for safety study programs of work to support new product designs and site-specific requirements
- Develop requirements and templates to support a standard approach to electrical system design and safety for new product development
- Serve as hardware engineering team technical expert on electrical safety related topics, including application to system level studies, task-based risk assessments, requirements during manufacturing and testing and application to installation, commissioning and service activities
- Mentor and train electrical engineering teams locally and globally in areas of expertise
- Represent electrical team in cross-functional design reviews
- Develop and maintain repository of product level electrical study models and reports created from software such as ETAP and PSCAD
- Ensure products meet all applicable electrical codes and compliance requirements in coordination with regulatory teams, supporting the harmonization of requirements across markets (UL, IEC, and country requirements)
- Provide input to new design concepts to improve inherent safety and lower overall costs
- Work collaboratively with product engineering, application engineering, quality and manufacturing teams to create, document and manage front-end electrical design requirements, including concept studies, PRDs and specification documentation
- Support downstream teams in the creation of cross-functional technical support documentation for new product releases
- Support electrical design release processes through our PLM system and engineering change management cross-functionally
- Support design simplification through ongoing design improvement, component consolidation and cost reductions of existing product lines
- Answer Internal Requests for Information relating to subject matter expertise, provide support to overall electrical design, provide support to test group, manufacturing groups and attend site visits as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent field with emphasis on power distribution or equivalent relevant experience
- 8-10 years of industry experience minimum
- Working knowledge of electrical design and safety standards, such as NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E
- Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying standards in adjacent highly regulated industries, with ability to gain working knowledge of ESS related standards, such as NFPA 855, NFPA 70, UL 1973, UL 9540 and UL 9540A
- Experience with electrical modeling software, such as ETAP and PSCAD
- Experience managing Arc Flash programs of work for electrical products
- Experience with DC Transient modelling and application to DC fuse selection and coordination
- Demonstrated experience with complex electrical projects from concept to production, including design of DC wiring and power distribution up to 1500 Volts, AC wiring and distribution for battery and enclosure equipment and design of low voltage control wiring
- Proven ability to manage projects within budget, timeline constraints, and drive to completion
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across levels and functions
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage the workload of multiple projects and tasks concurrently. Ability to be flexible with design iterations and changes in direction
- Capable of leading small project teams when required to meet project desired outcomes
- Willingness to mentor and develop other engineers in core areas of technical expertise
- Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally verbally and in writing with cross-functional teams
- Ability to think analytically to solve problems, with attention to detail and desire to simplify designs
- Strong customer and client service skills
- Strong proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Professional Engineering License
- Working knowledge of ESS related standards, such as UL 1973, UL 9540, UL 9540A
- Experience with electrical designs and documentation for mass production, including communicating design intent and providing support to contract manufacturers
- Previous experience with electrical panel design and electrical harness design
- Proficient with CAD software for Electrical Design
- Able to work flexible hours as needed to support global teams
- Occasional domestic and international travel to support projects and manufacturing
