Summary Description
The Oak Creek Fire Department is looking for motivated individuals to serve as Firefighters/Emergency Medical Technicians. Our Firefighters/Emergency Medical Technicians protect life and property in the community by responding to fire, emergency medical, hazardous materials, and technical rescue emergencies; as well as participating in public education and fire prevention activities. The Oak Creek Fire Department serves a community of approximately 37,000 residents, providing services from each of our 3 fire stations. We responded to over 6,000 emergency incidents in 2023.
Located along the western shore of Lake Michigan, Oak Creek is in the midst of a development boom and is one of the fastest growing cities in southeastern Wisconsin. In two decades, the City's population grew over 25 percent, and substantial growth and development is projected into the future. Adding vibrancy and a sense of place to the community, the City's Drexel Town Square features a modern mixed-use development anchored by a civic center plaza, City Hall, and Library facility. The City's elected leadership strategically invests in Oak Creek's future as demonstrated projects already underway. Duties, Functions and Supervision/Accountability
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Performs firefighting activities including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps and related equipment, laying hose, and performing fire combat, containment and extinguishment tasks. Respond as a member of a medical team to bring emergency medical care to the citizens of the community. Performs duties as a certified Firefighter and licensed EMT-Basic or EMT-Paramedic according to the criteria and standards set forth by the department or state. Operates and performs general maintenance on all fire department vehicles and equipment. Prepares written reports and maintains records under the supervision of Battalion Chief/Shift Officer in a timely manner. Present programs to the community on safety, medical, and fire prevention topics. Receives and relays fire calls and alarms. Operate radio and other communication equipment. Conducts fire inspections in various occupancies in the city as assigned. Assists in performing monthly preplan assignments. Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire facilities and equipment; cleans and washes walls and floors; cares for grounds around station; makes minor repairs; washes, hangs and dries hose; washes, cleans, polishes, maintains and test apparatus and equipment. Performs duties as a Fire Apparatus Driver and Pump Operator, when assigned. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum of 18 years of age High school graduate or equivalent Possess a valid Wisconsin's Driver's license Must be a US citizen Applicants shall certify that they do not smoke or use tobacco products at time of conditional offer Wisconsin Certified Fire Fighter Level I certification at time of conditional offer Wisconsin EMT-Basic license at time of conditional offer Current EMT-Basic students are encouraged to apply Completed Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) dated within one year of the date of conditional offer
Preferred Qualifications
Wisconsin Certified Fire Fighter Level II preferred (must be completed within 24 months of hire) Wisconsin EMT-Paramedic licensure (must be completed when assigned) Nationally Registered EMT-Paramedic (must be completed when assigned) Current EMT-Paramedic students are encouraged to apply
Preference Points
Preference points will be given to veterans with proof of honorable discharge. Preference points will be given for bachelor's and associate degree in a fire-related discipline, Examples include Fire Service Administration, Fire Service Management, Fire Science, Fire Science Technology, Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Systems Management, Public Safety Administration, Fire Protection, Fire Investigation, and Fire Medic.

THE SELECTION PROCESS Candidates that meet the minimum requirements and submit all required supplemental documents will be invited to participate in an examination process that will include the following steps:
Personnel Evaluation Profile: A Personnel Evaluation Profile will be administered during the month of January 2025. Department Interviews: Candidates who successfully pass the Personnel Evaluation Profile may be invited to department interviews. Department interviews are scheduled to take place in February 2025. Background Investigation. Successfully pass the IAFF/IAFC Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT). Candidates are encouraged to obtain certification as soon as possible if they do not already have one dated within the last year. See below for further instructions on how to obtain your CPAT. Medical Evaluation and Job Traits Assessment. After a conditional offer of employment has been extended, but prior to commencement of employment, the candidate must attain a passing score on a comprehensive psychological test and pass a thorough medical examination that includes, but is not limited to, a drug screen.

1 year of service - 1 week (3 24-hour workdays)

Dental Insurance : The City offers a Delta Dental plan. Specific plans offered are subject to change each calendar year. Eligible for coverage on the first of the month following 30 days of service.

Voluntary (employee-paid) plan available through Superior Vision. Employee is eligible for coverage on the first of the month following 30 days of service.

Life Insurance : The City contributes 75% of the cost for the basic life insurance unit which is equal to annual salary. Up to four additional units of coverage available at employee expense. Effective the first of the month following 30 days of service.
Long Term Disability Insurance : City provides coverage at 75% of wage up to $27,000; employee may buy-up additional coverage. Elimination period (for claims filing) is after 45 consecutive calendar days.
