GENERAL DESCRIPTION: A Youth Peer Partner is a young adult, over the age of 18 who has personal “lived experience” with one of the youth-serving government or educational systems (ex. involvement with child welfare, developmental disability, Individual Education Plans (IEP), juvenile justice, mental health therapy, special education, and/or substance use treatment) who wants to provide guidance and support to other youth with complex challenges. A Peer Partner will walk alongside a youth through the Wraparound planning process both during meetings with community partners and one-on-one. Peers have expertise and understanding that professional training and education cannot replicate; by sharing their personal stories they can help normalize and guide teens in similar situations. We are looking for someone who is passionate about advocating for youth, helping them find their voice and empowering them to use it, exploring the youth’s strengths, and connecting them to opportunities in the community.
