The Vice President of Student Affairs is a strategic and visionary leader responsible for guiding student-centered services that span recruitment, admissions, enrollment, retention, and student success through to graduation. This role is critical in ensuring an innovative, responsive, and supportive student experience across all campuses and locations. Key responsibilities include leading and advancing student services processes and systems to align with the college's mission and enrollment management goals. They may represent the President at college and community events as needed.
Collaborating closely with the Academic Affairs division and members of the Executive Leadership Council, this position oversees the Student Affairs leadership team, fostering effective collaboration between student services, instructional services, and academic initiatives. This collaborative approach ensures that student support aligns seamlessly with academic programming, creating a cohesive experience that optimizes both enrollment and student success outcomes.
The Vice President of Student Affairs is a member of the Executive Leadership Council and reports directly to the President/CEO.

Student Express Services Career & Employment Services Library Services Testing Services Student Life and Engagement Tutoring/Learning Success Responsibilities Executive Leadership: As a member of the Executive Leadership Council, they participate in strategic planning, policy formulation, budgetary decisions and problem solving, and offer advice and counsel on the implications of institutional decisions on both the academic program and the student experience. They may represent the President at college and community events as needed. Collaborative and Innovative Relationships: Build partnerships with the Vice President of Academic Affairs, Academic Deans, and faculty to support their work in program development, student engagement, and learning support. Work with colleagues to improve enrollment efforts through strategic and tactical planning and rapid continuous improvement. Cultivate relationships with community members and organizations to promote Gateway's vision and mission. Staff Leadership, Accountability and Development: Establish and promote a strong, equitable, well-informed, and positive workplace culture within the division and across the college. Meet regularly with staff to assess effectiveness of departments, provide support and encouragement, constructively solve work-related issues, discuss employee performance, and provide professional development opportunities. Oversee yearly goal setting, planning and assessment activities for Student Affairs departments including the development, research, and publication of results. Use data and planning to markedly close performance gaps. Assist students, faculty, staff, and visitors in resolving problems and difficulties. Fiscal Health and Accountability: Develop, allocate, and monitor all Student Affairs budgets to effectively maintain high quality, innovative and productive Student Affairs services. Identify areas where grant revenue could strengthen and supplement budgets and work collaboratively to secure such funding. Detailed responsibilities: The Vice President Student Affairs will provide leadership in the functional areas as assigned. Works collaboratively with the president and other vice presidents to foster and sustain a culture for student success that promotes innovation to ensure effective campus services and the development of a cohesive student affairs organizational structure. Leads the design, implementation, and assessment of a student success plan to successfully meet the campus-level metrics for student retention and completion. Plans, organizes, and administers all student affairs programs in concert with the College's mission, purposes, and resources with special emphasis on student retention, completion, and student success goals. As a member of the President's Leadership Council: Assures assessment of functional area needs, investigates and develops alternative strategies, establishes priorities and goals, recommends implementation activities, and evaluates progress. Oversees the development and administration of budgets for each functional area, and determines priorities for expenditures. Serves as a model for strong leadership, develops and supports the college culture of team collaboration and commitment to delivering high quality services and outcomes by being student- and employee-centered. Builds and sustains a process-managed organization and culture that delivers measurable value for the organization by targeting efficiency and budget optimization in functional areas. Collaborates with other executive leadership members to implement the College strategic plan. Executes strategic initiatives and resource allocation to achieve college-wide metrics. Creates and maintains an environment where planning, development, and delivery of services for students occur in a creative and effective manner that fosters cultural and global awareness. Ensure the delivery of excellent customer service, including face-to-face, telephone, electronic, and print transactions, within student services. Supervise the collection of student-related data and the preparation and submission of designated reports. Oversee the development of the college's Student Handbook and other paper and web-based publications related to enrollment management. Serve as the student affairs liaison to the college bookstore operations. Represent the college to the Wisconsin Technical College System Student Services Administrators group. Coordinate with Vice President of Academic Affairs on: scheduling enrollment management retention strategies internal and external evaluations/accreditation Provide support services to both online and on-campus students. Collaborates with campus leaders and System Office to ensure compliance, including preparing and submitting reports, with College policies, procedures, and requirements established by legal statutes, board policies, and administrative decisions; interprets and enforces external agencies regulations, policies, and practices (Department of Education Title IV, FERPA, Clery Act, Title IX, etc.). Serves on local and statewide committees associated with job functions, or representing the College as needed. Provides real-time persistence and retention reports consistent with those shared with college leadership at other campuses and Systems Offices. What You Need to Succeed in the Position Preferred: Doctoral Degree Experience leading in a two-year college environment Required: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in student personnel, counseling, adult or higher education, or related discipline. Seven years of progressive higher education administration and supervisory experience. Skilled in budget management, identifying efficiencies, maximizing resources, and securing alternative funding sources to strengthen revenues. Advanced skills in written, oral and presentation communication. Proven ability to generate and move ideas through to successful completion, utilizing strong project management skills to oversee multiple projects concurrently, meet deadlines, and assess outcomes to drive continuous improvement and innovation. Strong commitment to access, student success and customer service, while promoting an inclusive environment that values diversity and ensures all individuals feel respected. Skilled in communicating and working effectively in diverse environments to advance collaborative approaches to student success. Other Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to partner well with colleagues both in and outside of the organization. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in leading and developing Student Affairs programs including student enrollment services, student engagement and leadership development, and student support services. Demonstrated background in data informed decision making and program review/ evaluation systems. Demonstrated record of high visibility within the college community. Familiarity and experience with technology-based solutions to strengthen student affairs processes. Demonstrated experience interpreting and ensuring compliance with governing board policies, student codes and regulations, and regulatory standards relating to student organizations and services.
