Job Description: Howard Community College is seeking the next vice president of student services (VPSS) to lead the student services area. The VPSS is Howard Community College's chief student affairs officer and reports directly to the president of the college. The VPSS is a member of the president's team and works collaboratively with all areas of the college to create a campus culture that promotes student success and provides a safe and welcoming campus environment for a diverse student body. The VPSS is responsible for the management and supervision of: Enrollment management: admissions and advising including dual enrollment and international and immigrant admissions and advising; the welcome center; records registration, and veterans' affairs; financial aid services; and the test center. Academic support services: disability support services; tutoring and learning assistance; student completion services; Career Links; Howard P.R.I.D.E.; Student Support Services; Ambiciones. Career and counseling center, including mental health counseling and internships and job fairs. The wellness center and food pantry. Athletics. Student conduct. Title IX coordination. The VPSS plays a critical role in enrollment management by coordinating and promoting effective programs, recruitment, enrollment services, orientation, retention, programs aimed at closing the achievement gap, and career services. To that end, the VPSS: Ensures that the college provides a comprehensive array of wraparound student services, student development programs focused on student success, and enrollment management programs. Uses data-informed decision making to plan, design, develop, and deliver college-wide student programs and services. Recommends, develops, and implements student services policies, procedures, and practices which foster and promote student learning and success. Develops, fosters, and promotes new opportunities for partnerships with public and private sector entities. Provides leadership and guidance for the recruitment and retention of students. Prepares appropriate reports; analyzes and evaluates enrollment and retention data. Maintains continuous evaluation of the economic feasibility of student services. Communicates an accurate image of the college to the public. Requirements: Doctorate strongly preferred; doctorate in progress or master's degree combined with exemplary professional experience will be considered. Extensive progressive and proven administrative experience in student services; five years must be the equivalent of assistant/associate vice president level or above. Community college experience is required. Experience supervising multiple departments is required. Proven record of success in student recruitment and retention required. Strong knowledge of technology solutions to improve student services processes, operations, and the student experience. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Evidence of experience in admissions, recruitment, retention, and overall enrollment management. Evidence of creating and maintaining a culture based on relationships that energizes others to reach program goals. Demonstrated highly effective interpersonal and communication skills. SUPERVISION Provide supervision of all positions within student services for hiring, evaluation, and assignment of merit. WORKING CONDITIONS Frequent extended hours; fast-paced, busy, deadline-driven environment.
