Responsibilities:Work Schedule:
M-F between the hours of 6am to 7pm, with 1 hour lunch.
Job Specific Details and Tasks: The duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Collect specimens and decipher the best method for drawing blood samples from patients;ages range from infant to geriatric with varying health statuses. The standard is 10 patients per hour.
Provides appropriate verbal/written instructions to patient's regarding sample collection. Standard is to give instructions 100% of the time.
Perform all tasks using appropriate techniques to assure specimen integrity and positive identification throughout laboratory processes.
Transport specimen samples to appropriate department.
Check in, document, order, and maintain appropriate electronic medical information that support the hard copy medical record by utilizing the approved Laboratory Information System. The standard is to provide 100% accurate and 100% reliable and confidential results, to the authorized facility ordering or using the results.
Adherence to Infection Control, Personal Protective Equipment, and facility standard operating procedures 100% of the time. Standard operating procedures shall be reviewed within 5 days of assignment.
Complete and maintain standardized training which demonstrates competency to perform each job function. Commit to perform only those tasks for which documented training has been completed.
Provide instruction and training, following designation of Preceptor/Instructor status, to all laboratory personnel or other MTF staff members as required. The standard is to provide proper training per facility training plans and procedures 100% of the time.
Utilize approved avenues to communicate inventory levels and obtain supplies.
Perform inventory/expiration date checks.
Treat all staff members and patients with dignity, respect, and in a professional manner at all times. Internal and external customer complaints are monitored.
Specimen/central processing responsibilities
Specimens pour-offs/aliquoting.
Relaying and faxing lab result
Scheduling phlebotomy appointments
Pulling reports for QA
Minimum Qualifications:
* Education: Certificate. Graduate from a medical phlebotomist-training program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or educational program acceptable to the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
* Experience: Must have the required clinical hour required by certification institution.
*Certification: Certification/registration as determined by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or AMT as specified in the TO.
* Life Support Certification: Possess and maintain a current AHA or ARC BLS Healthcare Provider certification. ACLS is recommended.
* Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
