Position:Graduate Assistant - Strength and Conditioning Coach
Department:Athletics
Reports to:Assistant Director of Athletics - Sports and Medicine& Performance
Classification:Part-Time, Non-Benefit Eligible, 2-year maximum duration
Location:Lisle Campus
Position Summary:This position will work with specific sports as assigned by the Assistant Director ofAthletics - Sports Medicine & Performance to develop the physical strength, endurance,flexibility and agility of athletes. Additional responsibilities will includedesigning a program customized to each sport's specific needs, as well as coordinationand cooperation with athletic training staff.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1.Work with assigned athletic teams in the physical training ofstudent-athletes which include, but is not limited to, creating and assisting withprograms focusing on strength training, cardiovascular fitness, agilitytraining, flexibility and balance exercises, as well as overseeing andscheduling the facility.
2.Development of ayear-round Athletic Performance program customized for assigned sports. Thisincludes creating and tailoring each program to the gender, sport specificneeds and physical abilities of the student-athletes.
3.Assistthe Associate Director of Athletics in creating a positive atmosphere in theweight training facility and a culture of dedication and commitment to thestrength program.
4.Assist with the upkeepof the equipment in the Fitness Center during and following training sessions.Make recommendations to the Associate Director of Athletics concerning needs inthis area.
OtherFunctions:
-Responsible for adherence to all NCAA, Northern Athletics (NACC) and institutional rules and regulations, including eligibility and compliance of student athletes, medical hardship documentation and extension waivers.
-Adherence to all Benedictine University and Department of Athletics policies and procedures. Work independently and creatively within established guidelines, while at the same time functioning as a member of a team.
-Attend departmental and University related meetings and events.
-Maintain self-control and poise; provide an example of professional conduct for team members, officials, opponents and spectators.
-Work in coordination with University offices and departments to coordinate and facilitate Program needs, serve on University, conference and national committees as needed.
-Maintain high level of organization and ability to manage multiple tasks.
-Maintain positive relationships with alumni, parents, students, officials, volunteers and fans.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree required.
Experience: None required.
Qualifications:Applicant must obtain acceptance into aBenedictine Graduate program of Master of Business Administration, Master ofScience in Business Analytics, Master of Science in Management & OrganizationalBehavior or Master of Public Health.
Specific Skills:Knowledge of NCAA Division III philosophy, recruitment, rules andregulations.
Specific Knowledge, Licenses,Certifications:Organizational skills,writing and typing skills, interpersonal skills, data entry and budgetmanagement skills and demonstrated supervisory skills. Valid driver's license. Certification inStrength & Conditioning (NCSA or CSCS) or educational background that willprepare individual for certification.CPR/First Aid/ AED certification within the first 90-days of being hired.
Physical Requirements: Ability tohandle varying levels of stress while maintaining professional demeanor.Possible lifting, bending, walking, kneeling, stretching, and stooping.Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregularhours; outdoor exposure to sun/heat or cold weather.
Abilityto speak clearly so listeners can understand. Understand the speech of anotherperson.
Seedetails of objects that are less than a few feet away or are more than a fewfeet away. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. General Customerservice and office environment.
