Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator

 

Location: Layton, Utah

 

Schedule:

- Monday to Saturday, rotating 10-hour shifts (40 hours/week)

-Summer: 7:00 am to 6:00 pm

- Winter: 7:00 am to 5:00 pm

 

Compensation:

- Pay: $21.78 - $30.50 per hour

- Supplemental Pay: Bonus pay.

Job Description:

This is a highly skilled position in the operation of heavy equipment in Layton, Utah. The role requires expertise in operating dozers, trash compactors, excavators, road graders, and other heavy equipment. The primary responsibility is to operate within the landfill terrain to compact waste and rotate through to load conveyors and trailers with.

 

Essential Functions:

1. Perform daily inspections of equipment to be operated.

2. Operate heavy equipment (specifically a compacter, bulldozer, and/or soil moving equipment) and related equipment to compact and cover waste materials daily.

3. Maintain a clean and accessible face operation.

4. Ensure safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment related to landfill support facilities (specifically the Green Waste Facility and Citizen Pad) owned by the district.

5. Provide guidance and instruction to Landfill Spotters and/or other personnel working in the same area daily.

 

Minimum Requirements:

1. Minimum 18 years of age.

2. High school diploma or GED required.

3. Minimum of 3 years of experience operating dozers, compactors, and excavators at the level of Heavy Equipment Operator. (Forklift experience not applicable)

4. Current 40 Hour Hazwoper certification or ability to complete certification within one year.

5. Must complete a hunter safety course within one year of hire.

6. Any equivalent combination of training and experience.

7. Possession of a valid Utah Commercial Driver’s license, CDL preferred.

 

COVID-19 Considerations:

- Face masks are mandatory in any area with more than one person.

- Hand sanitizer and Lysol wipes available in all equipment and work areas.

 

Education:

- High school or equivalent (Preferred)

 

Experience:

- Minimum 3 years of experience operating dozers, excavators, and compactors (Required)

 

License/Certification:

- Driver's License (Preferred)
