Job description
Candidate for this position must be able to operate heavy equipment with complex controls requiring a relatively high degree of skill and manipulative ability. Work of this class is different from that in the class of Automotive Equipment Operator in that the incumbent is expected to operate more complex and specialized equipment and is required to exercise considerably more skill and care in the operation of their equipment to do their assigned tasks. Incumbents are responsible for the routine maintenance of equipment and may be required to perform related manual labor such as shoveling well drilling cuttings and lifting hollow stem augers and Geoprobe rods. Does related work as required. Candidate is required to have and maintain throughout employment in this position a class A or class B commercial driver's license. The appropriate New York State Driver's License as determined by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles, OSHA, DOT and Suffolk County Civil Service for this position.
Starting Salary: $36,149 goes to $36,879 July 2023

Either:
a) Completion of six (6) school grades, and one (1) year of experience in the operation of heavy automotive equipment; or
b) One (1) year of experience as an Automotive Equipment Operator

• Personal Leave: An employee is granted 4 days of personnel leave each year. Employees receive 7.5 hours on their 1st day and will accrue one additional day every quarter. After employee first anniversary 28 hours of personal days will be frontloaded at the beginning of each year worked. Unused personal time is rolled over into sick each year with no maximum rollover.
• Salary: Step increase every 12 months on July 1st completed year of service in addition to contractual raises through 2024.
• Membership in the New York State Retirement Pension System 5 year vested. In order to retire with Health benefits you need to work a total of 10 continuous years with the county and be 55.
