Why Join Us?The Department of Transportation (DOT) is on the lookout for a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator whose up for the challenge of operating various types of heavy machinery. Your expertise will ensure our construction and maintenance projects are completed safely and efficiently. Duties and Responsibilities Participate in roadway maintenance, culvert pipe cleaning, and other drainage systems. Operate a Vac-Con sewer/pipe cleaning machine. Independently complete assigned labor tasks and maintain work schedules. Report to a Crew Supervisor who provides assistance with unusual or difficult problems and inspects completed work for quality and compliance with time schedules. Complete daily tasks in an Asset Management system. Prepare estimates, requisitions, and specifications for supplies and materials. Perform other job duties as assigned. Education, Experience, Licensing Minimum Requirements: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and one year of heavy equipment operation or closely related experience. This is a safety-sensitive position, which is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace testing as provided in DOT regulation 49CFR-parts 40 and /or 382. Licenses: Possession of a valid Class B CDL with air brakes endorsement and an acceptable driving record is required. Supplemental Information Experience with Vac-Con machines. Lead work experience. Strong knowledge and skills in equipment maintenance and use of trade tools, materials, and practices. Basic computer skills. Ability to follow oral and written instructions with minimal supervision. Knowledge of traffic regulations and ability to set up a safe work zone. Physical ability to lift, push, pull, or move up to 70 pounds. Ability to stand, crawl, sit, or kneel for long periods in all weather conditions. Work days and hours:Monday - Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
