The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP) consisting of Dragados, VINCI, and Flatiron, has been selected to construct the $3.3bn Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel Design-Build Project; the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
The project scope across a 9 mile section of the I-64 will include: a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing that will accommodate a total of 8 lanes of capacity across the water, replacement of the existing marine approach bridges and the addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction. The twin 45 diameter 1.5-mile tunnels will be bored by TBM, creating the second largest TBM tunnel opening for a TBM in North America. The project is expected to continue at least to the end of 2025.
The Heavy Equipment Operator will operate at least one of the following types of equipment, including excavators, motor graders, bulldozers, scrapers, tractors, or front-end loaders to excavate, move, and grade earth, erect structures, or pour concrete or other hard surface pavement.

What you will be doing:
- Load and move material to required specifications as per project drawings including leveling to required grade, building shoulders, installing culverts.
- Start engines, move throttles, switches, and levers, and depress pedals to operate such stated machines.
- Locate underground services, such as pipes and wires, prior to beginning work. Align machines with reference stakes and guidelines or ground or position equipment, following hand signals of other workers.
- Learn and follow safety regulations to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects.
- Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.
What we are looking for:
- Must be 18 years in age or older. Strong preference given to candidates with High School Diploma.
- Must have minimum of 3 years experience operating excavators, preferably in a road building capacity.
- Must pass drug screen.
- Must be able to communicate with others to convey information effectively.
- Must be knowledgeable of safety procedures, practices and demonstrate attention to details.
- Must be accustomed to working outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions.
- Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
