Lee County Department of Transportation is thrilled to announce an exciting role for a motivated and energetic self-starter to join our team as a Heavy Equipment Operator, Senior. This position involves skilled operation of a variety of heavy equipment, including grade-all excavators, motor graders, bulldozers, mini excavators, lowboys, front-end loaders, trucks with trailers, pick-up trucks, and other related machinery. Duties and Responsibilities Primary functions of this position include operating hand and power tools, performing routine maintenance and inspections of related equipment, and maintaining road right-of-ways. Installing and repairing drainage pipes, catch basin forming, pouring, and finishing concrete. Placing, finishing, protecting, and repairing concrete. Ability to level screed, bull/hand float, and Rebar tying. Setting concrete forms for curb, driveways, and sidewalks. Help with final grade adjustments. May work with a crew or independently. Education, Experience, Licensing Minimum Requirements Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and three years of heavy equipment operation or closely related experience. This is a safety-sensitive position which is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as provided in DOT regulation 49CFR-Parts 40 and/or 382. Licenses Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brake and acceptable driving record is required. Supplemental Information Stand, sit, crawl, or kneel for long periods and work outdoors in all weather. Lift to70 lbs. Form, measure, calculate, pour, and trowel concrete. Build catch basins, shoot grades with a laser, and lay pipe. Knowledge of traffic regulations and construction equipment safety. Set up a safe work zone and learn specialized maintenance skills. Good communication skills; follow oral instructions and complete forms and paperwork. Able to read, write, and hear within a normal range. Interact with the public professionally. Able to work flexible hours in emergencies.
