Position Summary: The Accounting Manager directs the Accounting Department, which includes general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial reporting and cost accounting in support of C5MI and DC Capital Partners and its long-term objectives. This position provides technical expertise and leadership to the Accounting Department in the areas of financial accounting, cost accounting, GAAP, FAR and CAS. They direct the organization in the development, implementation, and maintenance of accounting, financial, and cost accounting processes, systems, and practices. This individual will spend time both in the weeds and with the big picture, requiring a keen attention to detail and exceptional analytical skills. They must take initiative and be able to think critically and independently to determine approaches and develop solutions, using sound judgment to make decisions. This individual must be able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines and be willing to work extended hours as needed to meet critical deadlines. Key Responsibilities: Manages and directs all accounting functions, including general ledger accounting, financial reporting, cost accounting, payroll/timekeeping, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. Builds and grows effective internal teams and leads, providing leadership and mentorship to the Accounting Department and holding direct reports accountable. Leads, manages, and holds accounting support team, including hiring, training, evaluation, succession planning, counseling, and disciplining of employees. Ensures the Accounting Department is appropriately organized and staffed to support business needs and to scale. Serves as the focal point for all accounting, financial, and cost accounting activities including monthly close, project setup and financial reporting (e.g., income statements, balance sheets, cash flow, financial results). Performs weekly cash flow forecasting and works to improve cash flow by optimizing the billing and collection processes. Performs administration and troubleshooting in the ERP system related to items such as cost pool setup, revenue calculations, billing calculations, etc. Serves as the point of contact with internal and external auditors, providing hands-on support of External Financial tatement Audits and DCAA audits, including incurred cost submission schedule preparation and updates to Disclosure Statement when/if required. Ensures compliance with and consistent application of all relevant accounting and regulatory rules, regulations, and company policies. Maintains and ensures compliance with finance and accounting processes, policies, and procedures. Performs periodic reviews of policies and procedures and makes any necessary updates. Continuously assesses current accounting operations to identify inefficiencies and implement improvements. Conducts internal training sessions on relevant financial topics within area of expertise. Fosters a high-performance culture, promoting teamwork, collaboration, and professional development. Adheres to all certified processes as part of our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and information security, which includes actively participating in quality assurance activities and ensuring the protection of sensitive information in accordance with our security policies. Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience: Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration. 10+ years of progressive work experience to obtain a comprehensive knowledge of accounting, financial, and cost estimating theory, practices, and procedures, and at least 5 years in a managerial role. A minimum of 5 years of recent and relevant U.S. Government contracting industry experience. Significant GAAP expertise; intermediate or expert knowledge of FAR, CAS, DFARS, and other applicable government regulations. Proven success in process streamlining to gain efficiencies and scale the Accounting Department. Demonstrated knowledge of revenue recognition and accounting principles. Minimum of 5 years of hands-on Project-Based ERP system (ex: Deltek Costpoint) experience - must possess a strong working knowledge in all ERP modules (accounting, projects, billing, people, and material). Extensive understanding of indirect cost pool/rate structures. ERP migration experience is a plus. Certified Public Accounting (CPA) Certification is a plus. Specific skills, knowledge, and abilities: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and interpret financial data and solve complex problems. Strong management, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to maintain professional conduct at all times, at all levels. Must be able to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization and across diverse cultures. Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills are required; must be able to quickly manipulate large quantities of data.
