Seeking to hire an Educational American Sign Language Interpreter for a female high school student.
Training And Educational Requirements
- Associates degree or deaf education, or classroom interpreting or similar.
- Seeking a certified RID; EIPA or NIC certified.
- Prior school-based interpreting experience is required.
- Child of a Deaf Adult; Child; Family member;
- Fluent in English - American Sign Language Interpreting
- High school student
- Experienced with classroom interpreting Provide sign language interpretive services as specified in the IEP.
- Interpret information, lectures, discussion, classroom activities, school meetings, trainings, and conferences.
- Adapts interpretations to the varying and diverse needs and abilities of students, and/or teachers and staff.
- Understands the educational and learning challenges a deaf or hard of hearing students faces on a daily basis.
- Communicate directly with student and peers.
- Prepare and study subject matter being taught or presented to ensure clear interpretation.
- Interprets informal conversations with students and staff during unstructured time
- Participate as a team member for planning and reviewing daily activities, attending in-services and information sharing for the purpose of optimizing the staff and student participation in the educational environment
- Provide staff with information regarding the interpretation process as well as needs and concerns of individuals who are Deaf & Hard of Hearing Teachers for the purpose of creating a positive Deaf friendly climate
- Collaborate with Teachers of the D/HH, other classroom teachers and other school staff to provide the optimum educational opportunities
