PERFORMANCE RESPPONSIBILITIES /ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. INSTRUCTIONAL
- Interprets lessons for students
- Interprets messages/interactions for teachers and students
- Follows Code of Ethics from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc.
- Interprets for faculty and teacher meetings and at IEP meetings for assigned D/HH students.
- Works with individuals or small groups of students to reinforce skills/concepts
- Provides instructional leadership when working with substitute teachers
- Prepares materials to help meet individual differences
- Plans, implements, and modifies interpreting strategies as needed.
- Reviews signs associated with lesson; responsibly develops and enters signs on computer; submits typed signs to the teacher weekly; teaches those developed signs to student as well as others
2. NONINSTRUCTIONAL
- Becomes familiar with and follows all regulations and policies of the school and School Board
- Attends faculty meetings when requested
- Attends and participates in paraeducator workshops
- Follows daily schedule, informing assigned teacher of any student schedule changes
- Collects monies, takes attendance and completes absence and illness reports
- Corrects objective tests and written assignments
- Accompanies students to office, first aid room, and restroom
- Maintains discipline standards according to regulation of the school system and the assigned teacher
- Performs all other related duties assigned by the principal
Skills and Qualifications:
- Must have 48 hours of college
- Hold the Ancillary Qualified Certificate issued by BESE
- Must know and be able to use Total Communication skills. Communications must be commensurate with age and skill of listener. Must be able to accurately compile and access data, summarize information, and provide written report to supervisor
- Shows documentation of maintenance of certificate through six (6) semester credits fo continuing professional education or the equivalent contact hours (90) during the five years preceding application for renewal of certificate. This is an average of eighteen (18) contact hours per year.
- Has passed the videotaped version of the EIPA at a level of 3.0 or has passed the Basic Cued Speech Proficiency Rating at a level of Proficient.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Hold an EIPA at a level of 3.5
Physical Involvement:
- Sitting is a required part of each work day.
- Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting up to 10 pounds is sometimes required.
- Ability to provide own transportation to schools, work locations and meeting sites.
- Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations.
