Job Title: Family Services Specialist II-APS Investigator
Job Locations: City of Virginia Beach, Department of Human Services, Adult Services
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
Pay Rate: $22.87/hourly.
Overview:
City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking a Family Services Specialist I to work as An Adult Protective Services Investigator to complete intake assessment for Adult Protective Services report. the candidate investigates Adult Protective Services referrals within policy requirements; assesses client's risk factors, physical and psychological capacity with the Uniform Assessment Instrument (UAI) to determine client's service and related financial needs; develops an appropriate service plan, referrals and community resources; gathers, interprets and applies interview and related investigative information to accurately assess and direct client to services and resources.
Job Duties:
- Accepts referrals for investigations of allegations of abuse, neglect, and /or exploitation of adults that meet criteria for a valid report.
- Will receive standard cases that may not have more than one type of alleged abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
- Will receive cases that may not have multiple alleged perpetrators.
- Will receive both regular and emergency cases.
- Conduct investigations in community, licensed residential settings, licensed group homes, licensed day programs, and unlicensed residential settings.
- Conduct face to face interviews with alleged victims, alleged perpetrators, and other collateral contacts.
- Collect and evaluate relevant information to make decisions related to investigation, services and outcomes.
- Complete documentation and casework within required timeframes based on local and/or state guidelines.
- Assess vulnerable adult's cognition, physical, mental, and functional abilities.
- Coordinates and collaborates with appropriate licensing agencies, law enforcement agencies, legal entities, contractors/providers, Physicians, hospitals, and numerous community agencies, to provide services to vulnerable adults.
- Provides emergency intervention support to adult by contacting emergency services, crisis intervention team, recognizing criteria for temporary detention order to remove adults from environments when imminent danger is determined to be present.
- Provide client advocacy, as well as consultation, networking, family support and crisis intervention.
- Complete Universal Assessment Instrument (UAI), service plans, safety plans based on client's needs.
- Prepare court documents and testify in court proceedings.
- Participate and complete all relevant and mandated trainings.
- Participate in case staffing, supervisions, divisional and department meetings.
- Consults with supervisor as need arises.
Requirements:
- Must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a human services field (social work, counseling, gerontology, guidance and counseling, family and child development, psychology or sociology); or possess a bachelor’s degree in any field accompanied by a minimum of two (2) years related experience in a human services area.
- Must have a current and valid Virginia driver’s license.
