An Engineer is responsible for general hotel maintenance and repairs. Areas to be maintained include guest rooms, interior public spaces, exteriors, grounds, storage areas and the hotel garage. Engineers work closely with the Director of Engineering to carry out other responsibilities assigned to ensure effective maintenance operations.

The person with this position must possess good communication skills, have the ability to resolve conflicts and have a thorough understanding of policies, procedures and expectations.

Because of the fluctuating demands of the company’s operation, it may be necessary that each employee perform a multitude of different functions; therefore, as an essential part of your position, you will be expected to help others when the occasion arises, just as other employees are expected to help you. Accordingly, you may be expected to perform other tasks as needed or as directed.

Responsibilities
  • Must be courteous and gracious, maintaining a professional demeanor at all times
  • Establish and maintain good communications and teamwork with fellow coworkers and other departments within the hotel
  • Ensure maintenance requests assigned to you are completed competently, with minimum disruption to hotel guests and coworkers within the assigned timeframe
  • Ensure all log books and record sheets are correctly completed and kept up to date prior to finishing your shift
  • Assist with maintenance operations including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, electrical, ice machines, lighting, kitchen equipment, etc.
  • Inspect and maintain electrical equipment such as compressors, circulation pumps, filters, outlets, thermostats and ice machines
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and equipment maintenance in accordance with established timeframes
  • Ensures that all standby units are readily available for operation
  • Remain updated on all projects or activity status within the department
  • Repair wall coverings and paint throughout the hotel
  • Inspect, repair and replace safety equipment, fire hoses cabinets, water valves, fire extinguishers, fire escapes, etc.
  • Maintain an appropriate variety and quantity of engineering tools and supplies
  • Adhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, memos and verbal instructions
  • Ensures cleanliness and sanitation at the workplace
  • Be familiar with all safety and emergency procedures including OSHA requirements
  • Attend relevant meetings
Required Experience
  • Three (3) years working as an Engineer in a hotel maintenance operation or service maintenance in a similar complex preferred
  • Good knowledge and practical skills in electrical, mechanical maintenance, A/C systems, boilers, steam, gas, water supplies distribution and equipment
  • Excellent reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English Language
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to multitask
  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Internet
  • Work well under pressure, requires being a team player
Working Conditions/Environment
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • The person having this responsibility may have to lift up to 50lbs on an occasional basis
  • The person having this position may have to sit for one (1) hour, stand and/or walk, push, kneel, bend, balance, squat, reach and stretch for eight (8) hours per day
