Job Summary:
*Please note that the Security Officer position is contracted through an external agency*
Security Officers will have strong interpersonal skills and a genuine enthusiasm for their work, contributing to a positive and secure environment. This role requires in-depth knowledge of fire panel operations, proficiency in CCTV monitoring, and a robust understanding of access control systems. The Security Officer must operate effectively during building and medical emergencies, maintaining the safety and security of our premises through vigilant monitoring and prompt emergency response. Excellent reading and writing skills are essential for accurate and thorough incident reporting. This position requires a detail-oriented professional with a passion for security and a strong technical skill set.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Security and Surveillance:
- Monitor and patrol premises regularly to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure the security of doors, windows, and gates.
- Respond to alarms and investigate disturbances.
- Operate and monitor CCTV cameras to identify suspicious activities and ensure the safety of the premises.
- Conduct regular inspections of the surveillance equipment to ensure functionality.
- Utilize effective communication and conflict resolution skills to calmly de-escalate tense situations, preventing potential security threats and ensuring a safe environment for all individuals.
- Address and manage conflicts between individuals in a professional manner, applying established protocols to resolve disputes while maintaining a secure and orderly environment.
2. Fire Panel Operation:
- Regularly monitor the fire panel to ensure all alarms and detection systems are functioning properly, promptly addressing any alerts or malfunctions.
- Respond immediately to fire alarms, investigate the cause, and take appropriate action, including coordinating with fire services and assisting in evacuation procedures if necessary.
- Conduct regular inspections and report issues of fire safety equipment, including extinguishers, alarms, and emergency lighting.
3. Access Control:
- Issue and manage access cards, keys, and badges, ensuring that only authorized personnel have access to restricted areas and maintaining accurate records of all access transactions.
- Monitor and control entry and exit points, verifying the identity of individuals and ensuring compliance with security protocols to prevent unauthorized access.
- Manage the registration and verification process for visitors, including issuing temporary access passes and guiding visitors through security procedures.
- Conduct regular audits of access control systems and logs, identifying and addressing any irregularities or breaches, and generating detailed reports for review by the Security Director.
- Perform routine checks and maintenance on access control equipment to ensure it is operating efficiently, troubleshooting and resolving any issues promptly.
4. Emergency Response:
- Respond promptly to emergency situations, including medical incidents, fires, security breaches, or other threats, taking decisive action to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of individuals and property.
- Implement established emergency protocols, including evacuation procedures, CPR, first aid administration, and coordination with emergency services, ensuring a swift and effective response to all incidents.
- Communicate effectively with team members, emergency services, and other relevant parties, providing clear and accurate information to facilitate coordinated response efforts and minimize confusion during emergencies.
- Remain calm and composed under pressure, employing critical thinking within the scope of security policies and protocols until the arrival of the security supervisor or Security Director.
5. Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain detailed logs and records of all security-related activities, incidents, and irregularities.
- Prepare and submit detailed reports on daily activities, including observations and any incidents that occurred.
- Assist in the investigation of incidents and compile evidence for further review.
6. Customer Service:
- Provide a high level of customer service to members, guests, staff, visitors, contractors, and all other individuals on property to ensure a positive and professional experience.
- Provide a welcoming and professional presence, assisting guests with inquiries, directions, and any security-related concerns to ensure a comfortable and secure stay.
- Handle guest complaints or conflicts with discretion and efficiency, ensuring a positive resolution while maintaining the hotel's high standards of service and security.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proven experience as a Security Officer or similar role.
- Knowledge of fire panel operations, CCTV systems, access control, emergency response and incident reporting.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform patrol duties and handle emergency situations.
- Additional security training or certifications are a plus.
Work Environment:
- This role requires working in various weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
- The position involves shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- This role requires the ability to work efficiently in a high-traffic, fast-paced environment.
