JOB SUMMARY

Daily cleans and provides high standards of sanitation throughout Memorial Healthcare in both patient and non-patient areas. Custodian Performs minor repairs of custodian equipment and machinery. Removes trash and Bio-Hazard and Pharmaceutical containers from departments and properly disposes of in assigned areas in accordance to safety protocols. Complete a Mandatory Bio - Hazard training course understanding the protocol of removing Bio- Hazard waste. Custodian Strives for superior performance by consistently providing excellence in services for that is recognized as ultimately contributing to the staff, patient and family experience. Recognizes and demonstrates understanding of patient and family centered care.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Clean, wash, wipe, disinfect, vacuum and clean all surfaces including walls, elevators, stairwells, lights, toilets, sinks, showers, windows, window sills, mirrors, ceilings, railings, door frames, screens, entrances, exits, fire extinguishers and removing any debris.
  2. Breaks down and places card board in proper containers.
  3. Restock bathroom disposables.
  4. Remove wax from floors and re-apply as needed.
  5. Maintains floors daily, burnishing weekly, top scrubbing empty patient rooms on rotation or as assigned.
  6. Extracts / Clean carpeting and rugs with appropriate equipment and materials.
  7. Dispose of all trash, waste, pharmaceutical items and hazardous materials according to all safety regulations.
  8. Maintain and cares for custodian/housekeeping equipment and puts away stock appropriately and rotating stock on shelves.
  9. Completes a Terminal clean in requested areas such as: Isolation rooms / patient rooms, ED and Surgery rooms
  10. Maintains the cleanliness of all custodian closets, storage rooms and Bio- Hazard room, placing stock away, sweeping floors and organizing the room.
  11. Moves, removes and relocates furniture, furnishings and equipment.
  12. Extract /Shampoos furniture.
  13. Maintains cleanliness of all entrances.
  14. Steam cleans walls, floors, grout in Public restrooms on rotation
  15. Maintains Environmental and infection control of cleanliness of assigned areas.
  16. Attends in-services and other required meetings.
  17. Demonstrates knowledge of and supports hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
DEPARTMENTAL AND ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Functions in all other housekeeping positions and duties.
  1. Cleans public restrooms
  2. Inspects and document findings of AED units in several areas.
  3. Performs other duties assigned by Director and /or Manager.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
  1. High School graduate or GED required
EXPERIENCE:
  1. Previous custodial experience preferred.
  2. Know fundamentals of custodian operations, floor care is preferred, removing Bio- hazard containers, trash and surgery trash.
  3. Knowledge of custodian equipment; commercial floor scrubbers, vacuums, floor buffers, carpet cleaning, removing and applying finish to floors.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES/MOTOR SKILLS

These physical requirements are not exhaustive and additional job related physical requirements may be added on an as needed basis. Corrective devices may be used to meet physical requirements.
  1. Sedentary Work: Frequently required to stand, kneel and crouch. On a daily basis may be required to move about, sit, climb stairs and bend. Is frequently required to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. May be required to push/pull/carry items between 20-100 lbs.
  2. Vision: Requires the ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye. Near acuity: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Midrange Acuity: Clarity of vision at distances of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet.
  3. Motor Coordination: While performing the duties of the job, it is required to regularly perform functions that include using hand and finger movement, handle or feel objects, be able to use tools or equipment that requires reaching with hands and arms. Must be able to travel independently throughout the hospital; access patients/families including areas confined by space and/or equipment.
  4. Speaking/Hearing: Ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening.
  5. Able to travel independently throughout all Memorial Healthcare facilities.
  6. Small motor skills required for operating modern computer, office, and telephone equipment as utilized by Memorial Healthcare (MHC).
  7. Able to place and retrieve housekeeping mops and cleaning items when you have finished using equipment.
  8. Able to stock shelves appropriately
  9. Able to work standing for long periods of time.
  10. Able to walk throughout the facility and off-site buildings
  11. Able to do forward reaching
  12. Able to retrieve and discard trash from all areas assigned.
  13. Able to adequately clean ceilings, baseboards; walls, windows and remove bugs from light fixtures.
  14. Able to identify and retrieve misc. hospitals furnishings that are in need of repair.
  15. Able to work in a hot environment.
  16. Able to operate various cleaning equipment such as:
  1. Floor burnisher, weighting 500 pounds
  2. Swing machine/Side by side floor machine weighting 250 pounds
  3. Advance Carpet sweeper, weighting 50 pounds
  4. T-5 Walk behind floor cleaner, weighting 250 pounds
  5. Advance Walk behind floor cleaner, weighting 200 pounds
  6. Trash carts ,weighting 200 pounds
  1. Able to remove old finish and re-apply new finish, run buffing machines, heavy vacuums, fans, carpet cleaners.
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL ABILITIES
  1. Proficiency using modern office, computer and telephone equipmentas used by Memorial Healthcare.
  2. Able to clean ceilings, walls, floors, windows and detail work of assigned projects.
  3. Able to pour dry and liquid chemicals without spillage
