Duties:
  • Maintains a pattern of prompt and regular attendance and performs all duties as assigned effectively and efficiently.
  • Maintains custodial supply room in a neat and clean manner. Keeps electrical rooms clear of supplies. Requisitions necessary janitorial supplies through the maintenance supervisor before the current inventory is depleted.
  • Vacuum any assigned carpeted area(s) daily. Pay close attention to dirt/dust build up along walls using a broom or mop as necessary. Provide routine preventative maintenance to vacuum cleaners as per instructions.
  • Sweep any assigned tiled area(s) daily. Mop these areas at least twice a week. Rinse out mops at the end of each day and hang up in the custodial supply room to dry. If assigned hallways, sweep and wash at the end of every school day. Use appropriate floor maintenance materials and buff on a regular basis. If necessary, strip and recoat all tiled areas (on a semiannual basis).
  • Upon completion of daily floor maintenance, return all floor mats, trash cans, etc. to their regular position.
  • Remove all trash from each assigned room daily. Place in large trash cans in hall. Replace torn and dirty trash bags with clean liners.
  • Clean all classroom door glass weekly.
  • Clean vents and ceiling fans monthly.
  • Ensure that all classroom doors, including fire exit doors are secure after cleaning each room. Make sure all lights and appliances are in the off position when leaving each room.
  • Clean large glass window in assigned part of the building using window brush and solution and squeegee.
  • For those classrooms with sinks or drinking fountains, clean these accessories daily using an appropriate cleanser/disinfectant. The same procedure is to be followed for sinks or drinking fountains located elsewhere in the assigned area of the school.
  • Clean all restrooms with a disinfectant/deodorant/cleaner.
  • After cleaning toilets and urinals place the correct amount of disinfectant in the bowl.
  • Replace all restroom supplies that have been depleted (toilet paper, hand towels and hand soap).
  • Notify the supervisor of all minor and major repair needs.
  • Ensure that all containers are closed and properly stored.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned.
